    Attitude publisher tells David Lammy to “f**k yourself” after “white saviour” tweet

    The publisher of Attitude Magazine, who has raised over £350,000 for an AIDS charity to spend in Africa has lashed out at the MP David Lammy after “White Saviour” tweet.

    The publisher of one of the UK’s biggest LGBT+ Magazines, Darren Styles, has lashed out at the MP, David Lammy after the MP tweeted that the world did not need any more “white saviours”, following on from the publication of a picture showing BBC presenter and journalist, Stacey Dooley holding an African child in her arms, while she was filming a documentary for Comic Relief.

    The MP for Tottenham, wrote, “The world does not need any more white saviours. As I’ve said before, this just perpetuates tired and unhelpful stereotypes. Let’s instead promote voices from across the continent of Africa and have serious debate”

    While the MP admitted that the tweet wasn’t “personal” to Dooley he did blast the charity Comic Relief writing, “My problem with British celebrities being flown out by Comic Relief to make these films is that it sends a distorted image of Africa which perpetuates an old idea from the colonial era”.

    Darren Styles, OBE who publishes Attitude Magazine responded to Lammy’s tweet, calling the MP’s view on colour “poisonous” and stating that he had raised over £350,000 for an AIDS charity to spend in Africa.

    Taking to Twitter Styles wrote, “As a white man who has raised more than £350k for an AIDS charity to spend in Africa you can go fuck yourself. I’ll spend my life and my time how I see fit, and do what good I can wherever I can based on need, rather than your poisonous view of my (or anyone’s) colour”.

    Are we all butt and package obsessed? Apparently not.

    In a recent survey by THEGAYUK, we uncovered that gay and bisexual men are more likely to notice the eyes first of someone they were romantically or sexually interested in, rather than the butt or package.

    Readers were asked to choose out of four body parts, the eyes, the chest, the penis or the butt, which they are most likely to notice first of someone they fancied.

    Given the choice out of the eyes, the chest, the package or the butt, perhaps surprisingly most people chose the eyes, with 43 percent of admitting that it was the eyes that attracted them first.

    Next, our eyes travelled southwards to the butt, with 23 per cent of guys claiming that an impressive ass would give cause for a second look. The chest area was next with 19 percent.

    Lastly, proving that we’re not all bulge obsessed, just 16 per cent of the people who answered the poll on Twitter said that the package was the part of the body they looked at first.

    However, some also suggested that teeth were important as well as hands.

    Manchester Pride: Ariana Grande responds to backlash to her headlining

    Ariana Grande has responded to criticism of her headlining this year’s Manchester Pride, saying that the ticket price was “mostly” out of her control.

    Manchester Pride has taken a bashing on social media this year due to a new pricing structure and issues surrounding who it announced as its headline for 2019, Ariana Grande.

    The announcement was branded a cis-straight whitewashing of the pride by one LGBT artist while, The Voice finalist Lauren Bannon called the new pricing a “joke” and a the event “venture capitalist”

    Grande’s headlining confirmation spurred a huge online debate, with many questioning why a straight-identified artist was chosen by the Pride.

    The singer has now responded, Taking to Twitter she wrote,

    “Hi my love. I have nothing to do with ticket pricing – Manchester Pride sets those rates, and they’re mostly out of my control.

    “The LGBTQ community has been so special to me and supportive throughout my entire career. The relationships i have with my LGBTQ fans, friends, and family make me so so happy. I want to celebrate and support this community, regardless of my identity or how people label me. and also i wanna visit a city that means so much to me. LGBTQ representation is incredibly important, and I’m always proud to share the stage with LGBTQ artists!

    “Over the years, pride events have been headlined by performers and artists of all sexual orientations and genders, including straight allies like Cher and Kylie Minogue. i do think there’s room for us to talk about these issues without equating a performance *for* an LGBTQ audience with exploitation of the LGBTQ community.

    “If you truly feel like i didn’t deserve to be offered this spot, I respect that. But i did accept it excitedly and gratefully. I’m not claiming to be the hero of the community or the face of the LGBTQ rights movement – I just wanna put on a show that makes my LGBTQ fans feel special and celebrated and supported. That’s all I wanna do.”

    Grande will be joined by Years and Years, 80’s duo Bananarama over the August bank holiday weekend at Mayfield Depot.

    When it comes to attracting someone, 43 percent of us say that we notice somebody’s face first, so we may want to take care of our teeth as a third of us admit we forget to brush our teeth!

    One in three Brits regularly forget to brush their teeth, it has emerged.

    Researchers who polled 2,000 adults found many have a lackadaisical approach to dental hygiene and aren’t ‘doing enough’ to keep their teeth and mouths healthy.

    Further to this, one in 10 have used chewing gum instead of toothpaste to keep their teeth ‘clean’.

    Eighty per cent are currently suffering with or have suffered with oral health problems – including sensitivity (33 per cent), cavities (32 per cent) and bleeding gums (31 per cent).

    But it’s not just taking care of teeth where we many of those polled are falling short.

    Commissioned by Colgate Total, which its makers claim fights bacteria on teeth, tongue, cheeks and gums, the research found 43 per cent have no idea how to maintain a healthy mouth.

    Davina McCall, Colgate Total ambassador, said: “I’ve learnt today that you shouldn’t rinse your mouth out after brushing – you should keep all that fluoride in your mouth and let it settle – spit don’t rinse.

    “Whole mouth health is so important, we don’t think about it enough – it’s just as important as other areas of health and fitness.

    “It’s such an obvious thing that we are forgetting, but our teeth are only 20 per cent of our mouth – we shouldn’t neglect the other 80 per cent including the cheeks, tongue and gums.”

    The research also found mouth health is well down the pecking order of priorities when it comes to a healthy lifestyle – behind our diet, weight and mental health.

    In fact, just nine per cent consider mouth health to be important – despite oral health problems being among the most common chronic diseases across the globe.

    Six in 10 admit they don’t take sufficient care of their mouths and should make it more of a priority than they do.

    Experts say the majority of oral health problems can be prevented or reduced through daily oral care.

    Despite this 57 per cent don’t think gingivitis can be prevented with a stringent oral care routine.

    Similarly, the Colgate Total research carried out through OnePoll found two-thirds don’t believe such a routine can stop tooth decay.

    Dr Milad Shadrooh, better known as ‘the singing dentist’, said, “When most people think about oral health they just think about their teeth.

    “The tongue, cheeks and gums harbour bacteria, needing a similar level of protection as teeth to help achieve whole mouth health.

    “As a dentist, I actively work with my patients to help them appreciate the importance of whole mouth health.”

    “Through education, we can show how easily people can prevent problems before they start by equipping them with the right information and products to look after their mouth health at home.”

    Dr Patricia Verduin, chief technology officer, Colgate-Palmolive Company, added, “Overall wellness is important to everyone, and total self-care means caring for the whole mouth, too.

    “We rely on our mouth to eat, drink, speak and laugh, but often neglect areas beyond teeth.”

    Zachary Quinto and Miles McMillan have allegedly split according to one US magazine. The duo who had been together for a number of years have apparently split according to the US gossip magazine, People. Neither star has posted an Instagram post featuring each other since June last year.

    A source close to the couple told People that the pair “amicably split earlier this year”.

    Neither has publicly acknowledged the split, however, their social accounts have not featured any pictures of each other since summer last year.

    In 2017 the duo rocked up to the Oscars together, but this year Zachary went to the glitzy awards with pals, Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson and partner Justin Mikita

    UN High Commission For Refugees refuses to respond to accusations of abuse toward LGBTs

    The Peter Tatchell Foundation has written to the UNHCR chief Filippo Grandi, who as failed to respond to accusations of “neglect, collusion, and inaction” over the victimisation of LGBT+ asylum seekers in Kenya’s refugee camps.

    According to Peter Tatchell, the UN High Commission For Refugees boss Filippo Grandi has failed to respond to concerns raised by the Peter Tatchell Foundation (PTF) over the alleged failure to protect LGBT+ people in Kenya, who have fled homophobic persecution from neighbouring countries like Uganda.

    Speaking THEGAYUK Peter Tatchell said, “Since 2017, I have received persistent reports of neglect, indifference and abuse by UNHCR staff and those they employ, including the failure of the UNHCR to protect LGBT+ refugees from abuse and violence by other refugees and the Kenyan police,

    “The UNHCR in Kenya has a duty of care towards all refugees, including LGBT+ ones. For at least two years, it has failed that duty of care – and sadly it continues to fail now”.

    The Peter Tatchell Foundation has proposed a five-point plan to the UNHCR to end the threats, violence and exclusion, including removing UNHCR staff and contractors who have behaved in a homophobic way.

    The letter sent by the PTF was sent to the UNHCR three times since Mid-January. The organisation has yet to response.

    The letter from PTF reads,

    Dear Filippo Grandi and UNHCR colleagues

    Abuse of LGBT+ refugees in Kenya
    I am a human rights defender of 52-years standing and Director of the London-based human rights ngo, the Peter Tatchell Foundation: http://www.petertatchellfoundation.org

    I work with the UK and other governments on human rights issues.

    I echo the concerns expressed by Richard de Luchi and LGBT+ refugees about the failure of the UNHCR to protect Ugandan and other LGBT+ refugees in the Kakuma and Nairobi refugee camps from homophobic abuse, threats and violence by fellow refugees, the Kenyan police and allegedly from some UNHCR staff and their external contracted employees, such as security staff.

    The UNHCR in Kenya has a duty of care towards all refugees, including LGBT+ ones. For at least two years it has failed that duty of care – and sadly it continues to fail now.

    Since 2017, I have received persistent reports of neglect, indifference and abuse by UNHCR staff and those they employ – and their failure to protect victimised LGBT+ refugees from abuse and violence by others. Allegations of prejudice and neglect persist against UNHCR staff.

    This is in clear violation of the UNHCR’s mission statement and brings shame to an esteemed UN organisation.

    You have the power to help put right these terrible wrongs. I urge you and the UNHCR to:

    1. Halt the placement of LGBT+ refugees in the Kakuma camp. It is unsafe.

    2. Transfer all LGBT+ refugees from Kakuma to Nairobi to a secure location, separate from other refugees who may threaten them (not all have been transferred thus far).

    3. Speedily facilitate the resettlement of LGBT+ refugees to safe countries where they can live their lives without fear, threats, discrimination and violence.

    4. Remove UNHCR staff and employed contractors who have behaved in a homophobic way towards LGBT+ refugees from any contact with these refugees and/ or dismiss them from UNHCR work.

    5. Give UNHCR staff training in LGBT+ awareness and the unacceptability of homophobia, biphobia and transphobia – and make such prejudice a disciplinary offence.

    I would be grateful to receive your assurances on these five points and be updated
    on progress on their implementation.

    Speaking to THEGAYUK, a spokesperson for the UNHCR said, “The safety and security of all refugees is of utmost priority to us.

    “UNHCR is responding to Mr. Tatchell’s letter to address his stated concerns. Our Assistant High Commissioner for Refugees, Volker Turk, recently wrote to LGBTI activists engaged in this issue and reaffirmed our steadfast commitment to finding a solution to this situation.

    “All LGBTI refugees registered and known to UNHCR in Kakuma are promptly relocated to safer places, where we provide them with shelter, food, water, medical care, legal and psychological counselling and other assistance. We ensure they receive official documentation that legalizes their residence in urban areas, an important measure in light of Kenya’s encampment policy. Assessments are conducted on immediate needs and to identify the best long-term solution.

    “UNHCR is actively advocating with resettlement countries to increase the number of places available for LGBTI refugees. However, the number of resettlement places needed worldwide far outstrips the number of places available. For 2019, just 70,000 places are available for more than 1.4 million refugees UNHCR has identified as in need of resettlement.  Our Nairobi office has been working to secure resettlement for as many LGBTI refugees in Kenya as possible.  In the last part of 2018, we submitted more than 100 LGBTI cases for resettlement from Nairobi and have submitted approximately 150 further cases for consideration so far this year.

    “UNHCR has a zero-tolerance policy towards any acts of misconduct by our staff or partners”

    “UNHCR has a zero-tolerance policy towards any acts of misconduct by our staff or partners, including homophobic abuse. Any allegation we receive is passed on to our Independent Inspector General for investigation. All UNHCR staff and partners are required to sign our Code of Conduct, under which any acts of homophobic abuse leads to disciplinary measures, including dismissal.

    Internet thirst trap, Davey Wavey has introduced the world to his boyfriend, Chad Remy while they were both on an paradise all-gay holiday in Key West. The duo stayed in the exclusive Equator Resort for gay men in the the Lower Keys, Florida.

    The star simply introduced his bae in an Instagram picture, which he captioned, “Oh, by the way, this is my boyfriend”.

     

    Later he admited that what he loved most being with Chad was that they “don’t complete each other” and added, “we are two fully formed, unique, independent people who happen to enjoy the shit out of each other”.

     

    The couple spent a week in the resort and thanked the Equator Resort for putting up with their shenanigans, saying, “A week in paradise. Big thank you to @equatorresort for putting up with these two messy queens”

    Stuck in a dead end job and in a deadbeat family, Tony Manero escapes the dull routine of his life by gathering the adoration of the crown as he struts his stuff on the dance floors of Brooklyn’s discos. But whilst practising with new dance partner, Stephanie Mana, his eyes are opened up to a world beyond the Brooklyn Bridge, and Tony slowly realises that his life has to change.

    Richard Winsor (Casualty) is affable enough as Tony Manero and is well matched by Kate Parr as Stephanie, whilst the ensemble cast fills the stage and brims with energy and enthusiasm during the dance numbers.

    Overall, the production has its faults. The set intrudes on stage leaving little room for the cast; the second act is narrative heavy with a storyline which all gets rather gloomy, the rapid flicking between brief scenes made the proceedings feel disjointed and the faux Brooklyn accents made the script difficult to decipher at times.

    But as you would expect, where this show comes alive is in the disco scenes, and these sections of the show are vibrant, colourful and full of life; and as they explode onto the stage they are a pure joy to watch. Featuring a soundtrack which defined a generation, the live band and singers were one of the show’s strongest features, as they brilliantly captured the look, sound, feel and falsetto harmonies of the Bee Gee’s, and belted out a string of songs which are deeply embedded in popular culture, including ‘Stayin’ Alive’, ‘Jive Talkin’’, ‘If I Can’t Have You’ and ‘How Deep Is Your Love’.

    Overall, Saturday Night Fever is a bit of a mixed bag, albeit one which is lifted by its strong and infectious musical numbers, the enthusiasm of the cast and a heavy dose of nostalgia.

    Saturday Night Fever is currently at Sheffield Theatres until Saturday 2nd March 2019 before continuing on its national tour.

    We’re not so sure.

    TV star Mark Wright has uploaded a stunning picture of him on a ski slope wearing nothing but a tiny pair of undies – which has gotten some of his fans questioning the size of his package.

    The former Only Way Is Essex star who was plugging his new show, The Bachelor, on Channel 5, looked hunky as he showed off his muscular body, while surrounding by the picturesque ski resort of Val Thorens, the highest resort in Europe.

    Looking up to the bright blue sky, Mark smiled with confidence as he posed for the risqué picture.

    He captioned the post: ‘The Bachelor UK, next Monday 4th March 10 pm!! #bacheloruk #yolo #naked #plug #ch5 @val_thorens’

    Mark has recently moved back to the UK after his job on the US show, Extra, speaking to The Sun he said that it ‘feels like the right time’ to return home and spend more time with his wife.

    He said, ‘I’m no longer living in LA. I was there for nearly two years and had the most amazing time. It just feels like the right time to come back to the UK and live here with my wife and family…

    His fans quickly praised the candid shot, but many of them were questioning the huge bulge at the front of his undies. One commented, “Can so tell there’s socks down there, either that or something is wrong down there, it looks like you are wearing a kids wet nappy”

    While another added, “Wow that’s huge”.

    We managed to get ourselves an invite to drive the new Jeep Wrangler recently.


    The email invitation read;
    “We would like you to be among the first to drive this exciting new car, and invite you to join us for a special drive event in the Lake District. There will be opportunities to drive the cars on- and off-road.”

    Off-road you say? We love getting down and dirty so didn’t need asking twice.

    Jeep are very proud of their heritage. They started making vehicles in 1940 for the Army and have been making civilian vehicle since 1945. That’s some pedigree.

    They describe their all-new Jeep® Wrangler as the ‘Go Anywhere, Do Anything’ 4×4 that blends together excellent on-road performance with legendary off-road capability.” We’ll be the judge of that.

    We won’t go mad about the details. We’ll tell you more about that after we’ve had one on test for a while. What we will say is that, depending on spec, it includes two advanced four-wheel drive, active, on-demand full time systems – Command-Trac and Rock-Trac – plus Tru-Lock electric front- and rear-axle lockers, Trac-Lok limited slip differential and electronic front anti-roll bar disconnect. We can tell you first hand that this stuff is unbelievable. It makes you feel invincible, like you could drive anywhere, over anything.

     

    The format for the event was simple. Pick a car, get in and follow the leader.

    Ardent Off Road looked after us and guided us along the course, helping us through the most challenging parts and keeping us safe.
    These guys are amazing. They run off-road tours and training sessions for the public and emergency services etc, they run holidays and events in the UK and abroad and lots more. They are really good guys and absolute experts when it comes to anything off road.

    Our day consisted of 3 different off road sessions with some road driving in between.
    The first off road session was a very challenging, uphill rock crawling section, the second was woodland, heavily rutted with big rocks all over the place and the third was even more rocks with steep steps and big drops.

    The Ardent guys kept things moving, guiding us through the perils but kept it safe and fun…..lots of fun.

    Our car was a Jeep Wrangler Sahara 2.2 diesel 2 door and was really really nice. The Sahara is the entry level and crucially, comes with road biased tyres. No big chunky, nobblies here, they’re standard fit on the Rubicon.

    Despite this, it was truly awesome off road. I mean, really impressive. Ardent took us up some really technical and challenging routes; rock crawling in the rain, fording in the woods and much worse. Even on road biased tyres our Wrangler didn’t struggle. It’s was jaw dropping, breathtaking and more fun than you can imagine.

    It’s easy to use too. The auto gearbox was simple, just put it in drive and select 4×4 low ratio, then go and get dirty. Some modern 4×4’s seem to have a million settings. The Wrangler has some buttons like hill decent but we didn’t use them. It is very simple to use and unbelievably effective.

    We’ll get one on test and do you a road test review. If it sunny, we’ll even show you it’s other party trick and take the roof and doors off too for a bit of fresh air fun.

    An irrelevant look at a certain car.

     

    You’ll be glad to have read that this Corsa was only available for six years. In the big scheme of motoring giants, six years is a pretty short notice and they only change the car that quickly if it just so happened to be crap.

    Well, dear reader, your luck is in. They were. There wasn’t much to recommend about the Corsa C and yet, in the UK at least, it was a big seller. From 2002 to 2005 it was always in the top 3 on the sales charts but that doesn’t mean anything. Celine Dion’s Titanic song spent way too long in the charts and that was shit. Thankfully our Cher kept it from being the top-selling single of 98. 

    Speaking of the great white hope of the ocean, one thing Corsa C did well was taking in water. These little Titanic’s of GM were exceptionally good at this, they let water in both at the front by the fuse box (water and electrics are such a good mix) and around the rear lights. Take that Titanic and your single gash!

    This did dampen Corsa C drivers’ spirits. Sorry, I couldn’t resist. Left unchecked, the water would pile in and the mould pile up and out. I’ve seen many Corsa C’s with all the penicillin you can eat on the seats! It’s like infection control on wheels. MRSA, dead in a Corsa C. C-Diff? Don’t make me laugh. Doesn’t stand a chance. You might get Legionnaires disease from all that stagnant water, but only one to six out of 20 die from that, so the odds are pretty good on survival. And remember, Corsa C is packed with antibiotics.

    To understand if your Corsa C has a water problem, you need to drive it with vigour. Here was the problem. It wasn’t very nice to drive. The interiors were pretty much all grey in colour and that sort of summed up Corsa C. 

    Engines were standard units of GM-type (I’m sort of losing the will to type now) but the three-cylinder did have a nice trick up its sleeve. It vibrated through the bloated body causing motion sickness to the point where you either stopped or chundered into the pool of sogginess in the footwell, adding something new to the cesspit that is also called the passengers’ footwell.  

    I suppose if I have to give Corsa C one selling point, it would be the boot opening. It was large and practical for a hatchback-cum-driveway skip. What followed with Corsa D was worse.

    But I’m talking Corsa C and it’s a bad car. Catch the bus.
