  • COCKTAIL | Cardhu Cocktail Honeyed Gold

I’ve never been a fan of whisky, until I met Cardhu Gold! Surprisingly smooth and makes a darn good cocktail too!

    Honeyed Gold

    50ml Cardhu Gold Reserve
    60ml Pear juice
    60ml Ginger Ale
10ml Honey water (equal quantity of honey and hot water, cooled before adding)

Pour all ingredients into a whisky glass over ice cubes and stir.

    HOW TO GARNISH

You could resort to the classic slice of lemon. Or you could step it up a bit with this simple to execute show stopper.

Take an orange or lemon and slice around 4 inches of peel.

Cut off the edges on the length sides to create parallel strips.

Then take the strips and cut the angles to create a triangle or ‘z’ shape.

Then twist so that the two ends meet in the middle and the orange or lemon mist is released.

  • Perez likens Katie Hopkin’s isolation tactic like AIDS epidemic of the 80s

Perez upsets Michelle Visage after he likens the isolation he’s felt by Katie Hopkins to AIDS in the 80s.

Another day another argument between Katie Hopkins and Perez Hilton, but after likening the isolation he’s experienced by Katie’s anti-Perez campaign, Perez stated his outrageous claim that he feels like he’s been “diagnosed with AIDS in the early 80s and she was trying to get everybody to be afraid of me and ostracise me”.

This angers RuPaul Drag Race judge Michelle Visage who shouts, “Having lost 20 plus friends to AIDS, that is a bit extreme!”

The AIDS crisis ravaged the gay community in the US and across the world killing thousands of people during the 80s and 90s. Across the world, AIDS has been attributed to over 39 million HIV-related deaths.

Perez continues to talk about how he has been “traumatised” by the Big Brother experience.

Earlier in the series Perez offended many viewers by saying that the removal of actor Ken Morley was like being free from cancer.

Celebrity Big Brother tonight from 8pm on Channel 5 and one more Housemate will be evicted.

  • Mormon church backs LGBT rights – with one condition

In a rare press conference at the Mormon Church Headquarters in Salt Lake City on Tuesday, a Church Spokesman called for a truce with LGBT groups.

Well, a partial one anyway. Mormon leaders pledged to support anti-discrimination laws for gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people, as long the laws also protect the rights of religious groups. In exchange, the Mormon Church wants gay rights advocates — and the government — to back off some of their very questionable practices.

“When religious people are publicly intimidated, retaliated against, forced from employment or made to suffer personal loss because they have raised their voice in the public square, donated to a cause or participated in an election, our democracy is the loser,” said Elder Dallin Oaks, a member of the church’s Quorum of Twelve Apostles. “Such tactics are every bit as wrong as denying access to employment, housing or public services because of race or gender.”

However Tuesday’s announcement doesn’t change church doctrine, including its opposition to gay marriage, Mormon leaders said. “But we are suggesting a way forward in which those with different views on these complex issues can together seek solutions that will be fair to everyone,” said Elder D. Todd Christofferson, a member of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles, one of the church’s top tiers of leadership.

Let we forget Mormons have fought the legalisation of same-sex marriage, and the pernicious PROP 8 to strike it down in California was a Mormon-backed referendum

  • Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Reject Campaign For Gay Pardons

Prince William and his wife Kate have refused to join the movement to pardon gay men who were criminalised in the UK for being gay, despite a huge campaign led by Benedict Cumberbatch and Stephen Fry.

The campaign is seeking the pardon of around 49,000 men who were prosecuted for their sexuality, a crime that was highlighted in the blockbuster film, The Imitation Game, starring Cumberbatch, who portrayed Alan Turing. Alan Turing was a computer scientist who in World War II cracked the infamous enigma code, which helped to bring about a swifter end to the war against the Nazis. Sir Winston Churchill described the code breaker as having “made the single biggest contribution to the Allied victory in the Second World War”.

Around 15,000 men are still estimated to be alive.

Within years of this great achievement, Turing was convicted of Gross Indecency, and his punishment was to be chemically castrated. Within two years he had committed suicide.

In 2009, Gordon Brown posthumously pardoned Turing with an “unequivocal apology”. Four years later the Queen granted a pardon under the Royal Prerogative of Mercy. Campaigners are asking that pardons like these be extended to all men who were charged and convicted of these homophobic laws.

In a letter to the Government, which was published in the Guardian, campaigners called for royal family to add their support to the cause, saying,

“The UK’s homophobic laws made the lives of generations of gay and bisexual men intolerable.

“It is up to young leaders of today including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to acknowledge this mark on our history and not allow it to stand.

“We call upon Her Majesty’s Government to begin a discussion about the possibility of a pardoning all the men, alive or deceased, who like Alan Turing, were convicted.”

A spokesman for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said the issue was a matter for the government and they would not make any public comment on it.

  • Vile Homophobia Blasted At Johnny Weir On Super Bowl

Openly gay former US skater and NBC Sports commentator Johnny Weir suffers a tirade of homophobic abuse on Twitter as viewers vent about him hosting the pre-game Super Bowl show.

Wearing a sparkly football themed costume, of blue rhinestones and matching face make up Johnny Weir who retired from figure skating last year, certainly knows how to make a statement, however, his appearance has left many users of social media sending a torrent of homophobic abuse.

  • Grindr Ads Infected With Virus That Autodials £1 A Minute Phone Line

Users of the gay hook up app Grindr have complained that their phones started calling premium rate numbers after a rogue advertiser pushed mobiles to call without their owner’s permission.

The malware ads, which have now been withdrawn, caused mobile phones to automatically dial premium rate numbers when users opened the Grindr app. Speaking to TheRegister.co.uk a Grindr spokesperson said,

“Grindr is aware of this issue and takes it very seriously. Ensuring that our users have the best experience possible is one of Grindr’s top priorities and we will not stand for users having to deal with malicious advertisements.

“We have both direct advertisers as well third-party ad networks which supply advertising to the app. The ads you reference were served by one of these third-party ad networks.

“While we do have a number of safeguards in place to monitor for ads on third-party networks, we serve billions of ads on our network, so there is the occasional chance that ads like this may appear.

“In this instance, we immediately reached out to our third-party networks to have these malicious ads removed.”

One user told the website, that even if you tried to cancel the call you were still charged the connection fee. Some users have reportedly been stung with bills of up to £65, for calls they didn’t know were being placed by their handsets.

TheGayUK reached out to Grindr to find out whether refunds or compensation would be offered to users affected by the malware.

  • FILM REVIEW | The Face of Love

★★★★ | The Face of Love

You glance at the cast list and think that at last, Hollywood is acknowledging good actors who happen to be a little older than Channing Tatum. The 3 leads here are Annette Bening, Ed Harris and the late Robin Williams in a slightly left of centre love story.

It goes like this, Annette Bening plays Nikki, an LA housewife and mother, who loves her husband, architect Ed Harris. The first part of the film shows this love while it films them on vacation for their 30th anniversary in Mexico until tragedy strikes.

Widowed, Nikki does what you imagine anyone in that position does, they exist, get up, breathe, eat, sleep and try to form some kind of life without that special someone but without any meaning and this film shows that lack of purpose so well.

That is until, on a whim, she drops by her favourite art gallery in LA, an old haunt from her pre-widow days and she spots a doppleganger; the spitting image of her late husband and that’s where the film goes into uncharted territory.

I’ve read some online reviews of this movie and they aren’t kind, but I found it endearing and felt an empathy with Nikki and her web of lies as she’s negotiating a relationship with someone who looks like and to all intents and purposes is her late husband; but with a penchant for hats and less fake teeth (watch, you’ll understand)!

Robin plays the third wheel – a neighbour, who lost his wife and has a crush painful on Nikki – a crush that comes to the surface when he makes a move and is, politely, thwarted due to Nikki’s sudden involvement with her late husband’s double!

Her live away daughter’s reaction is a treat when she first, accidentally, meets her mother’s new lover – worth watching just for this.

This is a lovely, delicious, silly and far-fetched movie – a Saturday afternoon treat, make yourself some popcorn, pour a wine and indulge kind of thing.

Suspend disbelief as someone once said and enjoy.
