  • Brands are under pressure to drop Mail Online advertising after shocking Richard Littlejohn column

Some of the UK’s biggest brands are under pressure to stop advertising in the Daily Mail and Mail Online after one of its columnists wrote a scathing piece about Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black’s baby announcement.

    “Pass the sick bag…”

Richard Littlejohn has written a column entitled, ‘Please don’t pretend two dads is the new normal’ in which he blasts the parents to be Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black for announcing that they are expectant fathers.

In the column, Littlejohn firstly questions who the mother is. Then goes on to ask, what role of the mother will play in their child’s life and who the sperm donor is.

Littlejohn then goes on to slam a transgender woman for becoming the first trans woman in the world to be able to breastfeed a child, born to her partner, who did not wish to breastfeed the child.

He misgenders the woman numerous times and describes the move as a selfish demand of “adults being given priority over the best interests of the unborn child”.

    He writes,

“For a start, this person is described as a woman, but has had no surgery to transition from a man. Sorry, but I’m with Germaine Greer — someone in possession of a full set of wedding tackle is a man, not a woman.

Secondly, if this is his/her baby, did he/she fertilise the egg in the traditional fashion? On third thoughts, let’s not go there”.

    Brands questioned

Brands such as Jet2, Calvin Klein, Quorn and Natwest have all had their brands advertised next to or under the content on the web version of the newspaper.

The Daily Mail was urged to fire Richard Littlejohn by over 200,000 people in 2013 after a piece he wrote “monstered” transgender school teacher, Lucy Meadows, who sadly committed suicide shortly after her transition.

StopFundingHate a UK pressure group whose campaign focuses on changing the media via its advertisers have called upon Quorn, Natwest, Visa and VisitNorway to answer on whether they were happy that their brands were effectively funding the content on the MailOnline.

The ads placed on the column are provided by a system called InRead, by Teads, an inventor of native video advertising.

UPDATE: Both Center Parcs and Southbank have pulled their advertising spend for the Daily Mail.

THEGAYUK.com has reached out to Quorn, Natwest, Visa, Jet2 for comment.

  • Daily Mail returns to Virgin trains after outcry

Virgin boss Richard Branson on Monday said he would resume offering the right-wing tabloid the Daily Mail on his trains after a decision not to stock them sparked accusations of censorship last week … (more…)

  • Virgin Trains will no longer stock the Daily Mail

    “Not compatible with our beliefs”

Virgin Trains have made the decision not to stock the Daily Mail after deeming that the paper’s ethos is not “compatible” with the ethos of Virgin Trains.

The paper has historically come under strong criticism for the way it editorially deals with issues surrounding immigrants, LGBT+ issues and welfare recipients. The publisher, which also own the MailOnline website has also published controversial articles by Richard Littlejohn, Piers Morgan and Katie Hopkins.

Staff at the train company were told via an internal memo that the Richard Branson backed train enterprise would no longer stock the paper in its shops or be provided in its first class carriages.

The memo seen by PR Weekly reads, “Thousands of people choose to read the Daily Mail every day. But they will no longer be reading it courtesy of VT [Virgin Trains]. There’s been considerable concern raised by colleagues about the Mail’s editorial position on issues such as immigration, LGBT rights, and unemployment. We’ve decided that this paper is not compatible with the VT brand and our beliefs. We won’t be stocking the Daily Mail for sale or as a giveaway.”

    Mixed reaction

The move has been praised and derided on Twitter. The anti-hate activism campaign, Stop Funding Hate has been a very vocal opponent of the Daily Mail and strongly encourages advertisers not to choose right-wing outlets for their marketing spend.

Infowars editor-at-large, Paul Joseph Watson, hit out at Branson saying that the train company could possibly lose customers because of the decision to stop stocking the paper.

In 2017 the Daily Mail was banned by Wikipedia as a citing source. Wikipedia has marked The Daily Mail as an “unreliable” source for stories and has banned its thousands of volunteer contributors from using the paper or the Mail Online as a source for facts after its volunteers decided that the 120-year-old newspaper was “unreliable” and that other sources should be cited.

A spokesman for the Daily Mail said, “It is disgraceful that, at a time of massive customer dissatisfaction over ever-increasing rail fares, and after the taxpayer was forced to bail out Virgin’s East Coast mainline franchise – a decision strongly criticised by the Mail –  that Virgin Trains should now announce that for political reasons it is censoring the choice of newspapers it offers to passengers.”
  • Katie Hopkins just deleted every tweet she’s ever sent

Self-professed gay icon wannabe, Katie Hopkins has deleted every tweet she’s ever written.

After it was revealed that Katie Hopkins and the Mail Online had “mutually agreed” not extend her contract, Katie Hopkins has deleted every tweet she’s ever sent on the Twitter platform.

The controversial columnist, former radio present and reality TV star has deleted all but some retweets following on from a bumpy 2017 – where she was sued by food writer Jack Monroe for libel, left her radio show on LBC and now seemingly quit the Mail Online.

It is not known why Hopkins deleted her entire catalogue of Tweets. The Mail Online issued a statement to Press Gazette saying, “Katie’s contract was not renewed by mutual consent.”

Following the news of Hopkins’ departure from the Mail Online, her name trended on Twitter.  As it stands her Twitter account is still active and she is followed by over 850,000 people.

Hopkins’ left LBC in May 2017, following calls for a boycott of the station from Guardian writer, Owen Jones. He suggested that guests who contributed to the station should withdraw their services until the station removed Hopkins from its roster of presenters.

Following the suicide bombing in Manchester early this year, Katie Hopkins sent a series of tweets from her Twitter account, after a number of terror-related incidents were reported in the aftermath of the bombing. In one tweet she questioned whether it was “Ramadan” yet and called upon “Western men” to “stand up, demand action” and not to carry on as normal.

Hopkins’ moved from writing for The Sun to the Mail Online in November 2015. During her time writing for both outlets, she drew a lot of criticism for her stance on immigration and Islam.

  • Daily Mail just got banned as a source by Wikipedia

Well we’re sure this won’t go down well with the Daily Mail, but Wikipedia has apparently banned anyone from using the paper or website as a source.

PUBLIC ANGER: A vigil outside the Daily Mail offices in 2013 after the death of trans teacher, Lucy Meadows.

The editorial department of the world’s biggest online encyclopaedia have decreed that all references from the paper should be scrubbed and replaced by other sources. The Mail Online is one of the world’s most successful newspaper websites.

In a statement, the editors wrote,

“Based on the requests for comments section [on the reliable sources noticeboard], volunteer editors on English Wikipedia have come to a consensus that the Daily Mail is ‘generally unreliable and its use as a reference is to be generally prohibited, especially when other more reliable sources exist’.

“This means that the Daily Mail will generally not be referenced as a ‘reliable source’ on English Wikipedia, and volunteer editors are encouraged to change existing citations to the Daily Mail to another source deemed reliable by the community. This is consistent with how Wikipedia editors evaluate and use media outlets in general – with common sense and caution.”

It did, however, note that historically the DM had been noted as a reliable source, saying,

The Daily Mail may have been more reliable historically, and it could make sense to cite it as a primary source if it is the subject of discussion. These seem to be good points, but should come up very rarely. Editors are encouraged to discuss with each other and apply common sense in these cases.

Wikipedia went online in 2001 and was created by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger. It has become one of the world’s most popular websites. It works by allowing anyone to make edits. This can sometimes lead to false entries or vandalism of pages. It is policed by thousands of volunteers who regularly delete and reedit deliberate and accidental errors.

  • JK Rowling just trolled the Daily Mail and it was perfect

JK Rowling just trolled the Daily Mail and it was perfect

Whoever writes the headlines for Daily Mail seems to be living pre-2016 and they just got trolled for it.

So yesterday, one of the headline writer for the Mail thought it was important to mention that one of the judges who ruled that Parliament must vote before Article 50 is triggered, is “openly gay”.

    The initial headline read:

“The judges who blocked Brexit: One founded a EUROPEAN law groups, another charged the taxpayer millions for advice and the third is an openly gay ex-Olympic fencer.”

It wasn’t long before the Mail started to come under fire for feeling it necessary to mention the third judge’s sexuality. For some reason it decided to change its headline to,

“The judges who blocked Brexit include who founded a EUROPEAN law group and second who charged the taxpayer millions for advice.”

Well, J.K. Rowling was not happy with the headline and trolled the Mail in the best possible way.

    She responded by Tweeting,

“If the worst they can say about you is you’re an OPENLY GAY EX-OLYMPIC FENCER TOP JUDGE, you’ve basically won life.”

  • Daily Mail readers really aren’t happy that London has “gay” lights

Daily Mail readers really aren’t happy that London has “gay” lights

Daily Mail readers are literally flipping over the fact that some of London’s traffic lights have LGBT symbols.

Sometimes we try to imagine the minds of those commenting on DM’s stories, but we get very claustrophobic.

So the DM reported that some of London’s traffic lights have LGBT symbols where the green light should be. Around 50 traffic lights in central London have been modified so that the green light has LGBT icons glowing instead of just a green light. The symbols include, two men or two women holding hands – or the gender symbols linking together…

Well commenters on the piece are mad. So very mad about this crazed PC world we live in.

One concerned citizen even called for a law to ban all political correctness and repeal all “p.c” laws that have been passed in the last 50 years.

Others were, of course, concerned that the tax payer might have been footing the bill for the scheme, whilst another was concerned that in time to come that “straight people will not be the norm”

Of course our absolute favorite was this rant which questioned why the gay community needed to parade its sexuality… Unlike the hetero community, which quietly goes on about it’s business – unless of course they’re on Jeremy Kyle.

  • Daily Mail Readers Can Not Help Themselves As Tamal Ray Comes Out

One can’t help but look, but when the Daily Mail reported that Tamal Ray from Great British Bake Off came out as gay, we had to go through the DM’s comment section to see what its readers thought….

Now we’re careful to point out here that these are moderated comments and do not reflect the thoughts, opinions or anything else of the DM editorial team…

There was a lot of conspiracy talk of the BBC ticking boxes.

Bert Puttocks: “Another BBC diversity box ticked”

JackMonroeFanClub: “The BBC has to tick the boxes. No random selection of candidates here methinks.”

Hansel: Boxed ticked. Well done BBC. Another year a, another chance to open the diversity playbook.

Then there were those who were happy with the proactive actions they had taken to make sure no gayness ever entered their living rooms ever again:

allyc: “So glad I cancelled my TV licence.”

    That’ll show em…

Stephen: This guy is a dream come true for the left wing, he seems to tick all of the right boxes to gain him favour with them.

    smg: is everyone gay now?

However to be fair and balanced – there were a lot of positive comments – but most people commented on whether Tamal was a “heartthrob” – the answer is yes people, yes!

  • Daily Mail Links Taylor Lautner Girlfriend Split To Gay Club Sightings

Twilight lead man Taylor Lautner has split from his girlfriend Marie Avgeropoulos and the Daily Mail has linked the split to possible sightings of the hunk at gay clubs.

The ‘amicable’ split comes after Taylor, who turns 23 next month, was spotted ‘lurking into two West Hollywood gay gay hotspots – The Abbey and Mother Lode’ a report that was first made by Radar Online.

The hunk was also spotted posing with THEGAYUK cover star Murray Swanby, captioned ‘I’ve never been more #attracted to someone in my life.’

The DM also reported that Taylor met up with Bryan Singer in order to further his career. That report was first made by Defamer. Defamer spoke to two sources who confirmed the story.

Rumours aside Taylor Lautner has been linked to an impressive line-up of women including, Lily Collins, Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez.
