  • 5 Things To Do Now You’ve Finished Your A-Levels.

Now the hard work is over, here’s five things to remember to do once you’ve finished your A-Levels.

    1. Don’t be pressured into anything.

When I was doing my A-Levels my tutors pressured me to go to university. I had no encouragement to find a job or an apprenticeship. I was not ready for university so I decided not to go, I was even called a fool by a teacher. If you don’t think university is right for you then don’t go. Remember, the same course will be available at a university for decades, however the right apprenticeship or dream job might be a one off.

    2. Find alternatives.

It is unlikely to be rejected by a university and end up without an option. But if that eventuality does come around then be prepared. Apply for part-time and full-time jobs, apprenticeships, traineeships and anything else you can get your hands on that interests you. Perhaps even doing a year at a college will be good for you, make the most of free education. You can never have to many qualifications and experience.

    3. Never take something for the sake of it.

Never go to university because you can. Go because you want to. It is the same with jobs, I made that mistake and it affected my mental and physical health. There is no feeling worse than going to work anxious and stressed and coming home exhausted and drained. The right people, places, and professions will all come around to you. Everyone has a purpose.

    4. Do what you enjoy.

So what if you don’t want to go to university with your friends, you can stay in contact. I was one of a handful of people from my year who didn’t go to university and I am in a much better position than some. I have a strong friendship circle and have a good lifestyle. If your passion is photography then pursue it. Go to university and study it and get that degree. If that is not for you, get a job to fund your adventure (photography can be very expensive!) and make the most of your free time.

    5. Everything will fall into place.

Take it from me. I left after my a-levels not wanting to go to university, I was called a fool by teachers and left a few people confused. I took a job I hated hoping I could make something of it. My biggest mistake was taking a job I didn’t love. Pair that with some stressful life experiences and you get some mental and physical health issues! It worked out in the end. I was offered an apprenticeship with a photographers studio in London. I had never been happier than the day I handed in my notice knowing in a weeks time I would be on the path to my personal happiness. And to this day, I have never loved doing something so much. I’ve always wanted to make my career something I loved. And now I can.

Here’s to your future. Whatever path you choose, make it the right one for you. Do what you love and you will love what you do.

    Best of teeth whitening 2016

Grooming expert Luke Christian tries out the latest teeth whitening solutions to see which ones are really up to the task of whitening and brightening your teeth.

I have spent the past month or so trialling out the latest teeth whitening products, and I am here to to tell you which of those were the most beneficial!

    Polished – Teeth Whitening Powder
The most unusual yet exciting teeth whitening product I’ve ever used! Simply dab your wet toothbrush into the powder, and brush your teeth as normal. Whilst I didn’t notice a massive difference colour-wise, my teeth felt squeaky clean afterwards!
    6/10  BUY IT ONLINE

Rapid White Express – 5 Minute Dissolving Teeth Whitening Strips
The strips gave my teeth a weird sensation! You apply the strips on your upper and lower teeth and wait for 5 minutes for the strips to dissolve. I didn’t notice a massive difference with these, however I liked how they weren’t messy or too sticky to use!
    5/10 BUY IT ONLINE

    Blanx – White Shock Formula
Easily one of the best toothpastes out there! This keeps my teeth feeling clean, and looking white!
    8/10 BUY IT ONLINE

    iWHITE – Tooth Polisher
One of my favourite products! A tooth polisher which not only made every tooth feel thoroughly cleansed, they also appeared brighter and healthier!
    9/10 BUY IT ONLINE

Instant Whites – Liquid Filled Swabs
Rub the swab tip on each tooth, without applying too much pressure. After a few days, I noticed a change in colour, however I found this product rather fiddly and flimsy to use.
    6/10 BUY IT ONLINE

ultra Dex – Recalcifying & Whitening Toothpaste
A great product, and my Mother’s personal favourite! There wasn’t that much of a noticeable colour change to this, but it left our teeth feeling very clean and their appearance looked polished!
    6/10 BUY IT ONLINE

ultra Dex – Recalcifying & Whitening Daily Oral Rinse
Another great product from ultra Dex, I noticed the minty flavour lasted a long time, keeping my breath fresh! However, no colour change was noticeable with this.
    5/10 BUY IT ONLINE

Rapid White – Pro Clean & Polish System
My absolute favourite! The tooth polisher has two nozzles,
one for cleaning, the other for polishing. It comes with little polishing cups in which you push the nozzles into, and then clean each tooth afterwards. A slightly lengthy process, but the most beneficial and the most noticeable when it comes to whiter teeth!
    10/10 BUY IT ONLINE

  • Top 5 Vintage Gay TV Characters

Top 5 Vintage Gay TV Characters

Antony Simpson shares his Top 5 Vintage TV Characters. In order to make the list, characters had to be iconic, queer and in some way vintage. So here we go:

    5. Willow Rosenburg (Alyson Hannigan)

Buffy The Vampire Slayer first appeared on TV in 1997. Willow started off as a geeky, shy girl who fell in love with part-man part-werewolf Oz (Seth Green). When Oz decided he was too dangerous to be around and left Willow she slowly transformed into an UBER Witch. She met fellow Witch Tara (Amber Benson) and fell in love again, only for Tara to be murdered. I love Willow because of the transformation from shy girl to powerful independent woman.

    4. Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman)

    John Barrowman
    CREDIT: KathClick

Captain Jack Harkness first appeared on our TV screens in 2005 in Doctor Who, before getting his own spin-off series Torchwood. Captain Jack is openly bisexual although all of his on screen relationships have been with men.

Now before you start commenting and telling me 2005 is hardly Vintage; Captain Jack is an immortal rogue Time Agent that has a timeline that dates back 1860s. So if that doesn’t make him vintage, I don’t know what will.

    3. Michael ‘Mouse’ Tolliver (Marcus D’Amico)

Michael ‘Mouse’ Tolliver appeared on TV in Tales of the City in 1993, which was based on the series of books with the same name. Michael is a gay man living in San Francisco in the late 70s and is a truly loveable character. If you’ve never seen Tales of the City, I can’t recommend the TV series’ and books enough.

    2. Mr Humphries (John Inman)

    Embed from Getty Images

Are You Being Served? Originally appeared on TV in the 1970s through to the 1980s. Are You Being Served? Was a sit-com set in Grace Brothers’ Clothing Department that focused on the Sales Clerks. I remember seeing a re-run and instantly fell in love with the mincing Mr Humphries.

Camp humoured Mr Humphries was filled with innuendo always alluded to his sexuality, as did his famous catch phrase ‘I’m free!’ whenever a good looking gentleman entered the store. An iconic character, one of the first TV characters to allude to their gay sexuality.

    1.Edna Everage (Barry Humphries)

AB FAB (C) Fox Searchlight Pictures
AB FAB (C) Fox Searchlight Pictures

Edna Everage debuted on stage in her native Australia before she appeared on our TV screens in the late 80s. This Melbourne Housewife is surrounded by fables, but is essentially a character created and played by Barry Humphries. Edna Everage self-proclaimed advisor to the stars and royalty I always think of as being the first mainstream comedian drag act. Her international status makes her number 1 on my list.

If there’s a TV character you feel should be on the list, comment on Facebook www.facebook.com/TheGayUK so that I can discover some new characters.

  • 10 hot reasons you need to tune into Euro 2016

    Football is here! Again. Whoop!

Discussing Leicester city’s latest signing or reliving the story of Burnley winning promotion back to premier league probably isn’t most gay guys’ favourite past time.

As well as a perfect opportunity for some witty innuendo style banter, involving balls, men’s tackle and scoring, here are plenty of mouth-watering reasons to sit back with an ice cold pint (or glass of wine) and admire the quality of some of Europe’s hottest prospects this summer…

    Olivier Giroud

The Frenchman tops most of football’s sexiest chart lists – would you allow this smooth Frenchman to dine you in romantic Paris?

Cesc Fabregas – One of two Spaniards in the list

He’s been named Glamour magazine’s sexiest footballer alive this week – clearly one to watch.

    Aaron Ramsey – Wales

This rough and ready midfielder will be flying the flag for our counterparts in France.

    Jack Wilshere – England

Who wouldn’t want to get caught up in a tackle with the Arsenal midfielder.

    Marc Bartra – Spain

This guy can mesmerise with his feet but his eyes should do just the trick as well.

    Cristiano Ronaldo – Portugal

Has won some of football’s most prestigious accolades and named Sport’s top earner this week – the ex-Manchester United striker has kept his boyish looks and certainly keeps his body in shape too.

    Andrea Barzagli – Italy

This Italian stallion will be one of the oldest players at the euros but despite his ripe old age of 35 he’s still got the looks.

    Patrice Evra – France

    Embed from Getty Images

Hold me for Evra and Evra, – see what I did there?

    Granit Xhaka –Switzerland

I’m not entirely sure how you pronounce his name, but that’s not the first thing you’d be worrying about if you met Arsenal’s latest signing in a Swiss alley way.

    Eric Dier – England

One of England’s least obvious players – what you might call our surprise package.
There’s ten perfectly good reasons to join in the football frenzy – don’t worry too much about how offside works, just enjoy the talent on show at Euro 2016!

  • Five Things You Need To Do To Turn Snooze Sex Into Amazing Sex

Forget the steak and chips and a night out with the Mr… Go straight to the bedroom…

Sex expert Susan Quilliam gives her top advice for couples who want to spice up their bedroom habits.

    Anticipation:

    CREDIT: © Lopolo Depositphotos

Wake each other with erotic whispers, by tongue-kissing goodbye as you set off for work, and send sexy emails and texts all day. When you get together in the evening, firstly talk in detail about exactly what you’re going to do to each other.

    Loving Touch:

    CREDIT: ©-dnf-style-Depositphotos

    CREDIT: ©-dnf-style-Depositphotos

Sensual stroking doesn’t just arouse you but releases hormones that make skin and nerves more sensitive. Plus, it brings you emotionally closer, which in itself makes the experience more powerful. Use Durex Embrace pleasure gels separately or together, to create a magic massage experience that makes you want to go on and on…

    Take It In Turns:

It can be amazing to concentrate on one’s own sensations without needing to return the favour.  So let the ‘giver’ fondle, kiss, lick while the ‘receiver’ just lies back and enjoys.

For added impact, try blindfolding the receiver so they can’t see what’s going to happen next.

ALSO READ: What is a white glove bottom?

    Exchange Control:

Set the timer for 15 minutes and during that time let your partner dictate all the moves, positions, speed, pace and rhythm. Then set the timer again and you take charge, saying precisely what you’re going to do. Add extra erotic charge by specifying that neither of you can orgasm until the ‘controller’ of that time period gives permission.

    Hold back:

Introducing pauses in to the love act means passion builds physiologically higher, emotions zoom upwards – and the climax is stronger. Don’t rush on to the end, instead create hesitations of a few heartbeats between touches, kisses and thrusts. And only allow yourselves to tip over the edge when you’re both begging for release.

  • What To Take To A Gay Pride – The Gay Pride Survival Kit

Pride season is upon us. Hundreds of thousands LGBTI folk up and down the nation will be visiting Pride festivals all over the UK… Here’s what you should take with you.

    Portsmouth Pride

With Hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of people visiting one of over 60 prides across the UK, it’s a good idea to go prepared. They are often crowded and expensive and outdoors so here’s our top 10 tips on how to survive pride.

    1) Raincoat

    CREDIT: chalabala / bigstock
    CREDIT: chalabala / bigstock

Pack a raincoat. I know it’s not sexy – make it a Vivienne Westwood if you have to, but the British weather can not be relied upon to be good. Make sure it has a hood – hair straighteners won’t work in the middle of a field in a portaloo.

    2) Battery Powerpack

    CREDIT: TheGayShop

Smartphones are amazing at capturing the moment whether it’s through pictures, face time or you being able to update your social about who’s doing who. The only problem is the battery never lasts long enough. So grab a power source. Pride in London have released their very own this year – well worth the £12.00 – plus they come already charged.

    3) Medication

    (C) Garyphoto:Depositphotos.com

Only the legal sort. Take painkillers. Nothing kills the moment than a stinking hideous headache caused by whatever this year’s headliner is supposed to be. Also take any meds you take on a daily basis. Take a 24 hour supply – just in case you don’t go back to yours.

    4) Secret Tenner

Stuff it in your pants, your socks or secret it away somewhere else. You’ll never know when it might come in handy.

    5) Uber

If you find yourself in a place you don’t know summon an Uber cab. If your area doesn’t yet have Uber then make sure you know the local cab firm’s telephone number or download their app. Make sure you have enough battery on your phone to make that call.

    6) Sun protection

Silhouette of muscle boy on beautiful hot background

Despite the fact that it’s overcast you can still get burnt to buggery so make sure you wear sunblock. If you’re looking for a sunblock that doesn’t go all white and sticky so you look like a sweaty pig – we suggest Image Skincare prevention + daily matt moisturiser – expensive but well worth the extra.

    7) Condoms and lube

colorful condom on white background seven day a week

You might get lucky so bring some protection and you might even get lucky with more than one person so bring lots. If you don’t use them – share them with your mates – make sure they’re protected too!

    8) Spare undies

If you end up at someone else’s place you might want to bring a spare pair of undies – you know so the walk of shame isn’t so Ewwww.

    9) Antibacterial lotion

The last thing you want to do is pick up a bug from one of the many thousands of people who will attend pride, so pick up some anti-bacterial lotion. Many of the portaloos provided at pride will also have anti-bacterial handwash for free.

    10) Ear plugs

Protect your eardrums. Sounds from the stage could well permanently damage your hearing – with noises louder than a Jumbo Jet taking off.

  • 9 Ways To Keep Your Liver Happy And Healthy

Here are Jordan Lohan’s top tips on keeping your liver happy and healthy the natural way.

CREDIT: Wavebreak Media Ltd / BigStock
CREDIT: Wavebreak Media Ltd / BigStock

If you do not want to, or cannot carry out a cleanse, then here are some simple ideas for the transition into spring time that focus on the liver, and always opt for organic as much as possible:

    Begin your mornings…

With 1 tsp raw honey, 1/2 lemon (juice of), 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar, in a large glass of warm water – this is a real hug in a mug for the liver (i actually do this all year round with organic cinnamon thrown in too).

    Consume more raw vegetables…

    © encrier Depositphotos

Especially greens, cruciferous and all kitchen herbs, the chlorophyll within these help promote a healthy liver.

    Sulphur

Is essential for detoxification so up your garlic, onion, leek, cabbage, and cauliflower intake. You could also take a supplement of MSM, which is an organic form of sulphur.

    Liver loves sour!

Fermented foods like sauerkraut or kimchi, kefir yoghurt, lemon juice etc. Sour tasting foods stimulate the liver, promote cleansing of tissues, stimulate digestion, energise the body and support nutrient absorption.

    Liver also loves bitter!

Lemon, limes & all citrus (including peels), asparagus, radishes, lettuce, as a few examples. Bitter type foods detoxify also help control sugar levels and cravings.

    Bump up pungent foods

Like garlic, turmeric, ginger, fennel- all will boost your immune system which is important during seasonal transitions as weather changes can cause havoc with allergies, existing illnesses, and can make us more open to catching colds/flu etc.

    Opt for rye…

Amaranth and quinoa as preferred grains as these tackle a liver in “stagnation”.

    Herbal supplements

That support the liver and promote detoxification; Artichoke, dandelion, grapefruit, milk thistle, chamomile, st. johns wort- check for any contraindications before you incorporate in your regime. If you are on ART there are a few herbs that interact with medication so be sure to check with your doctor which ones are safe.

    Milk thistle…

Peppermint, dandelion & burdock, and green tea are all wonderful herbal and medicinal teas to support the liver.
