    The streaming platform has announced a date for its new film, The Boys In The Band and yep, it’s another Ryan Murphy production for Netflix.

    So what is The Boys In The Band all about?

    More than fifty years after Mart Crowley’s play became an unexpected smash hit for putting gay men’s lives centre stage with honesty and humour, THE BOYS IN THE BAND returns to the screen in a new adaptation that reunites acclaimed director Joe Mantello with the all-star cast of the Tony-winning, 2018 Broadway production. In 1968 New York City – when being gay was still considered to be best kept behind closed doors – a group of friends gather for a raucous birthday party hosted by Michael (Jim Parsons), a screenwriter who spends and drinks too much, in honour of the sharp-dressed and sharp-tongued Harold (Zachary Quinto). Other partygoers include Donald (Matt Bomer), Michael’s former flame, now mired in self-analysis; Larry (Andrew Rannells), a randy commercial artist living with Hank (Tuc Watkins), a school teacher who has just left his wife; Bernard (Michael Benjamin Washington), a librarian tiptoeing around fraught codes of friendship alongside Emory (Robin de Jesús), a decorator who never holds back; and a guileless hustler (Charlie Carver), hired to be Harold’s gift for the night.

    What begins as an evening of drinks and laughs gets upended when Alan (Brian Hutchison), Michael’s straight-laced college roommate, shows up unexpectedly and each man is challenged to confront long-buried truths that threaten the foundation of the group’s tight bond.

    The Netflix film, produced by Ryan Murphy, reunites the entire cast of the Tony-winning Broadway revival. Premiering globally on Netflix on 30 September.

    TODAY IN GAY: Marsha P Johnson born

    Marsha P Johnson was born in August 1945 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. She was also known as Malcomn Michaels Jr. Johnson and had six brothers and sisters.

    Before “Marsha P Johnson” became the icon that we now know, Michael’s took the drag name, “Black Marsha”, before adopting Johnson as her surname. According to reports, the Johnson name was taken from the Howard Johnson’s restaurant on 42nd Street in NYC and the P standing for “pay it no mind”.

    Johnson was found dead on the 6th of July 1992. She was 46-years-old at the time of her death.

    Johnson was a drag performer and LGBT+ activist and usually used female pronouns for herself, but also referred to herself as “gay, as a transvestite or simply as a queen” She was a well-known character in the New York Greenwich district and is widely considered to be a key figure in the Stonewall Riots of June 1969.

    She was heavily involved in the advocacy of AIDS patients and homeless LGBT+ folx.

    In 1992 Ms Johnson went missing on the 4th July, two days later her body turned up in the Hudson River, New York. Police and an autopsy ruled her death a suicide, but friends and relatives believe that she would never end her own life.

    The authorities, under pressure from the community, reclassified her death as “death to drowning from undetermined causes”.

    In the David France documentary film, The Death and Life of Marsha P Johnson, her death and its possible causes are discussed as large (available to stream on Netflix)

    Was her death an accident, suicide or something more sinister? This is the question that activist and crime victim advocate Victoria Cruz from the New York Anti-Violence Project has set out to determine as she launches her own investigation into the death of one of New York‘s most prominent LGBT figures.

    Sure you could just send the standard “wank, suck, fuck” reply, but wouldn’t it be cool to let the guy you’re chatting to know exactly what you’re looking for?

    “I send the list” he joked, Davey revealed that he a prewritten list of all his turn-ons and what he’s looking for which when you think of it, is brilliant.

    It’s really simple and easy to do, plus it’s a great conversation starter.

    Simply open up your phone’s notes app and list those kinks and quirks. You can be as specific as you want or leave a couple of things out, for later conversations.

    If you’re an XTRA member on Grindr, you can actually save your list to your “saved phrases”.

    Just leave a minute before you send, you don’t want it to seem like you’ve got that shiz pre-written.

    Getting what you want

    Firstly you’re saving a lot of time, not having to type it out over and over and secondly, you’re putting it all out there, increasing your chances of a) getting exactly what you want b) finding someone who’s into the same things as you.

    As it is, you shouldn’t really spring fetishes or sexual kinks on a hookup when you’re actually in person, unless it’s part of a wider conversation. Ideally, you need to lay all of that out before you set off so that the person you’re going to hook up with is informed.

    Randy Rainbow apologises for Tweets that may have offended

    YouTuber Randy Rainbow has apologised after dozens of Tweets were discovered on his timeline that critics have slammed as racist and transphobic.

    He responded by saying, “I am in no way a racist. I am in no way transphobic… I’m embarrassed by [the tweets]. They make me sick to my stomach.”

    In numerous Tweets, he used race as the punchline and in some, he used the T slur, which some in the transgender community offensive.

    The tweets, some of which date back to 2010, have now been deleted from his timeline, but screenshots still remain, you can see them over at Queerty.

    ‘Not funny with no context or nuance’

    In an interview with the Advocate the performer made an apology by way of explaning that the tweets were offensive, “especially with no context or nuance”.

    He told them, “Twitter has recently reminded me about 10 years ago, in my maiden quest to be funny, I tweeted some jokes that were completely offensive and insensitive to look back on them now, especially with no context or nuance and through the prism of where we are in 2020 with racial inequality and the fight for social justice, which I’m proudly a part of”.

    “I deeply apologize to anyone I offended”

    “In light of issues that are now at the forefront, which I’m passionate about and have spoken up about over the years, these tweets just sound racist and awful. I’m embarrassed by them. They make me sick to my stomach, in fact, and I deeply apologize to anyone I offended.”

    “I am known as the guy who calls out bigotry and racism, which is what I want to do”

    He ended by asking his fans to remember that he is a comedian and not a politician.

    ““I am a comedian. I’m not a politician … This scandal I’m going through might seem a little more scandalous to some because I now have this voice in the political world. I am known as the guy who calls out bigotry and racism, which is what I want to do. That’s how I want to use my platform. That’s what’s really in my heart.     Drag Race star Chi Chi DeVayne has died, 34

    The Drag Race star Chi Chi DeVayne has died according to reports.

    Drag performer Chi Chi DeVayne has reportedly died. She had been in hospital, being treated for pneumonia. She competed on the 8th series of the show.

    It was also reported that she had been treated for kidney failure.

    In 2018 DeVayne was diagnosed with scleroderma, a condition that attacks various internal organs.

    RuPaul, who has left social media, did release a statement through the RuPaul Drag Race Twitter account saying,

    “I am heartbroken to learn of the passing of Chi Chi DeVayne,” he wrote. “I am so grateful that we got to experience her kind and beautiful soul. She will be dearly missed, but never forgotten. May her generous and loving spirit shine down on us all.”

    “On behalf of VH1, World of Wonder and the cast and crew of RuPaul’s Drag Race, I extend my deepest sympathy – from our family to hers,”

    “I am heartbroken to learn of the passing of Chi Chi DeVayne.

    An official statement from DeVayne’s family was posted to her official Instagram account, saying, “His final words to his family and fans “never give up”.

    Over a month on and RuPaul’s social media channels are still empty.

    Back in July, RuPaul shocked fans when he deleted every post on his Instagram account and seemingly shut down his Twitter account. The only social platform that is still live is his Facebook page, which hasn’t been updated since 2019.

    Even his official website hasn’t been uploaded in quite a while.

    Despite the lack of content, Ru’s channels are still highly subscribed, with over 4.1 million followers on Instagram and 1.3 million followers on Facebook.

    Gossip site, PageSix have reported that the star had “had it with being scrutinized on social media”

    A “source” told the site, ““The truth is things like Black Lives Matter is overwhelming for someone like Ru. He gets backlash for appearing to not … support the community and [he receives] a lot of negativity, so he disengages,”

    THEGAYUK did reach out to RuPaul for comment, but never heard back.
