  • Gay Man Killed After Meeting On Hook Up Site

A man was killed after arranging a meeting on a hook up site. Four men have been charged with his murder.

A man in his 40s was robbed, brutally beaten, stripped and left for dead after he arranged to meet someone for sex online in Nampa, Idaho.

Four men charged with robbery and murder could now face the death penalty. Three Nampa residents, Kelly Schneider, 22, Kevin Tracy, 21, Jayson Woods, 28, and Daniel Henkel, 23 were arraigned in Canyon County court. They face charges of felony robbery and first-degree murder.

According to KTVB.com the victim, Steven Nelson, 49 arranged to meet with Kelly Schneider after meeting him on a hook up site. They arranged to meet at Gotts Point at Lake Lowell. When they arrived it is alleged that “Schneider threw Nelson to the ground and kicked him repeatedly.”

During the attack Mr Nelson is reported to have pleaded for his life, begging his attackers not to kill him.

They then allegedly stole his credit cards and wallet and keys, later withdrew $123 from Mr Nelson’s account. Henkel and Schneider were captured on CCTV using the victim’s bank cards to withdraw funds.

After the attack Mr Nelson managed to seek the attention of nearby homeowners, who immediately called the emergency services. He had suffered broken ribs and was bleeding from the ear. He later died from a cardiac arrest a number of hours after the attack.

Before he died Mr Nelson was able to speak to police about his attackers and was able to give descriptions leading to the arrest of the four men.

  • COMMENT | Is Binge Watching The Future Of TV?

I’ve recently found myself slipping into an alarming condition – binge watching. I know, I know, it’s hardly life threatening in terms of health…but if left unchecked, could be relationship threatening!

Ok, let’s start at the beginning – what is binge watching? According to the Oxford Dictionary, it’s a verb (that’s a “doing” word – all that education wasn’t wasted) and originated back in the early 1990s with terms like binge drinking, binge eating, etc. Binge seems to be something we add to words to make them sound bad, or as a warning.

So, back to binge watching, where we define the phrase as watching multiple episodes of a programme/series in one sitting. Netflix did a quick survey back in 2014 and found that 73% of its viewers defined it as watching at least 2-3 episodes in a single sitting, typically of the same series – and this is my definition too.

It’s only right that Netflix is mentioned as it feels like one of the main “suppliers” to binge watchers worldwide – think about it and pre-streaming, the only way to binge watch was to buy the physical DVD or (even further back) video.

Now, however, things have changed substantially and we have Now TV, Amazon Prime, Netflix, and lots more streaming services coming online that supply us with what we want, when we want it – entire series of programmes in a single sitting, immediately.

So what’s the appeal? Why do we do it? How did we lose that glorious anticipation we felt when we were so into a new series, we couldn’t wait for the next episode – but did?

Let’s be honest, there are some series so popular that they aren’t released as a series in totality – whether this is due to contractual restrictions or simply to keep you coming back next week, it doesn’t matter. We can still have access to the entire back catalogue and enjoy classic moments in between new episodes – yes “Game of Thrones”, I’m looking at you.

So, while I love the concept and appeal of fresh episodes each week – think “The Night Manager” – I also love the feeling of making a new discovery or reacting to a recommendation and watching as many episodes as possible to keep that theme or storyline going.

As an example, I missed ‘Looking” when it first came out but based on friends recommendations and the fact that Murray Bartlett (Dom) is a cutie-pie with a nice bum, I bought the 2 series available via iTunes and binge watched them. I couldn’t stop – simply because I’d found characters that I liked (mostly) and storylines that interested me and I now owned both series so had access to watch as much or as little as I wanted. My addictive personality meant that 2 series lasted about a day and a half, but what a glorious day and a half!

I’ve found myself doing it with other programmes too – am part way through season 2 of “How To Get Away With Murder” (OMG!) and me and my partner are watching a couple of episodes per evening rather than watch TV. This is after watching season 1 via Netflix in a couple of sittings. This is where binge watching comes into its own – it you haven’t watched this programme, its a complex murder mystery played out over a season, with multiple characters and storylines interweaving and, if I’m honest, I would have lost the plot if I’d had to wait too long between single episodes. But by binge watching, I was able to keep on track and really enjoy the series.

I can’t help but feel that our viewing habits are changing enormously and this has to have an impact of the future of TV as we know it. On demand and catch-up play such a huge part in my current viewing habits – and it would seem, in the lives of my friends (on and off line).

I recently asked a simple question across my social media platforms and got the same answer. The question? Do you binge watch? The answer – a resounding yes, but for a variety of reasons. These ranged from sheer boredom to catching up on a series you’ve missed, or re-watching an old series you love.

My reasons for doing it? All of the above! I work from home mainly and as this can be quite lonely and quiet at times, like to have some noise on – I dislike radio, and as a control freak (of sorts) don’t like someone else choosing my music or chatter, so I like being able to put something on in the background and dip in and out between emails, spreadsheets and WebEx’s.

I recently watched 8 series/seasons of The Big Bang Theory while involved in a soul-destroying admin task…some may say watching a single episode is soul-destroying but I quite liked the canned laughter and jokes.

So, the upshot is that I feel binge watching is becoming the norm and a good way to play catch-up for series you may have missed or been recommended by friends/family. As more of us change our lifestyles and work patterns, the traditionally way to view programmes has to change too and, so far, its not doing too bad a job.

Got to go now, there’s 7 seasons of Buffy on Netflix and they ain’t gonna watch themselves…

  • RESTAURANT REVIEW | Jamboree Foodfest & Bar

Opening a burger/foodfest restaurant and bar with a sizeable backroom complete with stage for live music in a space joined onto a Novotel hotel might not seem like the most conventional of pairings.  But Jamboree on Blackfriars Road SE1 is a breath of rainbow-bunting fresh air for the borough of Southwark.

Don’t be put off by the French, mid-range hotel brand’s corporate exterior.  The building is accessorised with a fun red neon Jamboree sign and their colourful interior can be seen from across the traffic-magnet main road.

Once inside you’ll feel as though you’ve walked into a London take on a barn dance bar.  High ceilings laden with multicoloured bunting and exposed vintage bulbs, bare wood beams, walls, floor and tables.  A clean spit-without-the-sawdust gaff.  We approve.

To wet our whistles we were pointed towards these two bad-boys:

Fire Apple:  Fireball cinnamon whisky, cloudy apple juice, bitters and ginger beer.  It was like pouring an energetic San Francisco Stomp down the gullet where all the participants were hot-footing it in cinnamon-laced cowboy boots.  Not too sweet and plenty of yeehaw from the bitters and ginger.

Knees Up: Blackwoods gin, basil, lemon, apple and ginger.  A few defuser reeds and this imbibe could easily freshen up the mustiest of rooms.  If TheGayUK owned a five-star luxury spa, the Knees Up would replace the complimentary cucumber water.  An abundance of herby, floral and citrus notes.

We sampled three burgers, all of which were sandwiched in white, spongy, slightly sweet buns.

Maryland soft shell crab burger: a sugar-paper texture followed by light fishy candy-esque meat.  Claw-icious.

Racing Bull Argentina beef burger with chimichurri: succulent, gamey and moreish beef elevated by the parsley, garlic and punches of vinegar from the chimichurri – a burger worth saddling up for.

The Yucatan veggie burger: a smooth sombrero-sporting falafeley filling with a hint of oregano.  My pulse-and-prune-eating pal polished off the lot, but it’s not for everyone.

Thursday evenings, Jamboree will be filling their stage with live music.  The bar has been set high after hearing the five-piece band Gatsby – http://www.gatsbyband.co.uk – performing their own takes on Bieber, Bruno Mars and Coldplay – we almost buckaroo-ed out of our chairs and threw our stetsons in the air.

With cocktails at only £7.95 and a decent burger for £13.95, we suggest you jump on the bandwagon.

Katie Hopkins has written about how she wants her 7-year-old son to be gay and has revealed how she’s going to make it happen.

LBC radio presenter and columnist for the Daily Mail Katie Hopkins wants her 7-year-old son to be gay and writing in her column has revealed how she’s helping him to achieve it by playing Kylie to him whilst he dances.

Although she blasted the BBC for turning an adaptation of Midsummer Night’s Dream into a PC lecture, because writer Russell T. Davies had changed some of the characters into gay characters, she still said that she hopes her son, aged 7, would grow up to be gay.

In her column Katie managed to re-enforce several stereotypes about gay men, including listening to Kylie Minogue, being gym obsessed, and her hopes that one day he’d be able to “dress (her) with style”.

Speaking about her son, Katie wrote,

I hope my son will be gay.

He can dance and is proud of his six-pack at seven, which I am taking as a positive sign.

I play Kylie to him in the kitchen to show him the way. I hope one day when I am older, perhaps he will finally teach me how to dress with style.

Whether Katie Hopkins is a “gay icon” is a deeply contested issue in the gay community with many believing that she is – whilst others, disagree.

Michelle Visage told TheGayUK earlier in the year that Katie could have had the chance to become an icon after her appearance on Celebrity Big Brother and her relationship with Perez Hilton made her a popular contestant on the show, but ruined it with her divisive views.

Recently Katie Hopkins likened her new look of shortened, cropped hair to Julian Clary.

She had her hair cut after she underwent brain surgery to help with her epilepsy.

In 2014, he voted to “enable the courts to deal with proceedings for the divorce of, or annulment of the marriage of, a same-sex couple” and in 2015 he voted to make “same-sex marriage available to armed forces personnel outside the UK.”

Outspoken columnist and radio presenter Katie Hopkins has used her column to blast Russell T Davies’ adaptation of Midsummer Night’s Dream for the BBC.

Gay icon wannabe Katie Hopkins has used her Daily Mail column to blast Russell T Davies’ adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream for the BBC. In his new adaptation the Queer As Folk creator has updated the story to include same-sex partners and a lesbian kiss.

The 90-minute film is due to air on the Bank Holiday weekend.

Russell T. Davies who also created the BAFTA nominated Cucumber for Channel 4, was commissioned by the BBC to give A Midsummer Night’s Dream a modern twist,

Speaking about his vision for the production Davies said,

    “…It’s 2016; that’s the world now,

“Only idiots might have a problem with that.”

Outlining what she assumes to be her pro-gay credentials first, Katie Hopkins said that she wanted her 7-year-old son to be gay – and often played Kylie to him “to show him the way”, but didn’t want the BBC to turn “everything into a politically correct lecture”, and warned that there are somethings you never mess with, Shakespeare being one of them.

    She continued,

“Before the LGBT community start running for a safe space, be reassured I fully support the right of everyone to be whatever they like. Even if that is a man, dressed as a woman, who identifies as gender neutral but still fancies his mum.

“I have performed at Gay Porn Idol, and loved every sequinned minute. I do drag well.

“I hope my son will be gay. He can dance and is proud of his six-pack at seven, which I am taking as a positive sign. I play Kylie to him in the kitchen to show him the way. I hope one day when I am older, perhaps he will finally teach me how to dress with style.

She blasted the BBC saying that the corporation was “pursuing a left-wing liberal agenda”.

    She continued,

“I don’t want Shakespeare queered-up so you feel more at home. And if you’ve got a problem with that, I couldn’t give a flying Puck.”

The star shared the candid shot whilst in bed, saying that he felt “artistic”.

Colton is the second actor to come out as gay in the TV show Teen Wolf after Charlie Carver came out in January, earlier this year.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly Colton about his official coming out he said,

“I should have made a comment or a statement, but I just wasn’t ready. I didn’t feel like I owed anyone anything. I think in due time, everyone has to make those decisions when they’re ready, and I wasn’t yet. But I felt like I was letting people down by not coming forward with the rest of what I should have said…People who are so judgmental about those who are gay or different don’t realize that acting 24 hours a day is the most exhausting thing in the world.

“It took me so long to get to this point, but I’m doing so good. I’m happier than I’ve ever been, and healthier than I’ve ever been, and that’s what I care about.”

So what do you think? Are piercings hot?

  • FILM REVIEW | Henry Gamble’s Birthday Party

FILM REVIEW | Henry Gamble’s Birthday Party

    ★★★★ | Henry Gamble’s Birthday Party

    PR SUPPLIED
    PR SUPPLIED

It’s Henry Gambles’ birthday and we’re all invited to the party!

It’s the new DVD/VOD release called ‘Henry Gamble’s Birthday Party’ where the viewer is an attendee at Henry’s birthday party – or at least that’s what it feels like while watching the film. Henry Gamble (an excellent Cole Doman) it turning 17 years old and his family is throwing him a barbecue pool party at their very nice home. Gamble’s family, including his mother Kat (Elizabeth Laidlaw), father Bob (Pat Healy) and collegiate sister Autumn (Nina Ganet), are a religious Christian family where Bob is a pastor and their circle of friends are mostly from the church community, including Henry’s friends.

But it’s Henry’s big day, and lots of people come to the party. But each member of the Gamble family are struggling with issues that may go against their belief in the church. Kat confesses to Nina that she had an affair with a close family friend who was terminally ill, Nina, meanwhile, is having trouble with a guy she likes (and whom she slept with – a no no in her religions’ beliefs), but she’s angry at him for not being in contact. And Henry is not struggling with but accepting the fact that he is gay. So theirs, and lots of other friends’ issues come to the fray during the party. It’s lots of splashing around the pool, with the young lithe teenagers in their skimpy bathing suits offending one of the older female attendees, while the son of the wife of the husband who Kat had an affair with is having a hard time coming to grips with the death of his father. But all these people come together for Henry, he’s the nicest guy around, goodlooking enough so that the girls fancy him and the young men want to be his friend, including closeted young Logan (Daniel Kyri), who likes Logan but has a hard time penetrating into his circle of friends. It makes for a lot of celebration and drama in this 86-minute movie.

Henry Gamble’s Birthday Party’ is a coming out story that’s not, forgive the pun, all preachy about being accepted for being gay. It’s a celebration and a masterfully directed film not just about a young man who happens to be coming out of the closet but also about the Evangelical Christian community. And Director Stephen Cone masterfully interweaves several stories going on at the same time that’s not a bit confusing but provides an element of actually being there and eavesdropping on everybody’s conversations. Doman is a true find at Henry Gamble. His face (and smile) practically lights up the screen – he’s a natural and hopefully will have a very successful acting career in his future. But credit goes to award-winning filmmaker Cone (who also wrote the script) for creating a film that makes it a fun experience to be a part of. Bring your swimsuit.

HENRY GAMBLE’S BIRTHDAY PARTY debuts May 3, 2016 across all digital platforms including iTunes, Vimeo On Demand, and WolfeOnDemand.com.
