    #OscarsSoStraight

In past years, the Oscars have come under fire for being too white with the #OscarsSoWhite hashtag trending to blast the organisation for its lack of diversity. This year people are saying it’s too white, too male and too straight.

    #OscarSoWhite became a headlining story in 2015.

This year, it seems is the LGBT+ community’s time to shout about how undiverse the nominations are, along with how male and white the nominations appear to be.

Across Twitter people have been blasting the Oscars for the lack of LGBT+ (or more specifically how cis and heteronormative the award nominations are in 2020.

    “Boycotting”

Fans of the show have sworn off this year’s show, with some suggesting that the organisation hadn’t learned from previous years.

Others suggested that it was the lack of inclusion that made the world-famous awards show unwatchable.

LGBT+ representation is virtually non-existent the nominations for the large award categories.

“More Female Directors Of Gay Porn than Oscar nominees”

One person pointed out that even the gay porn awards nominated more female directors than the Oscars managed.

However, Antonio Banderas is up for Leading Actor for his performance in Pain And Glory. And Rocketman receives one nomination for Best Original Song.

    No Nomination for Rocketman

Taron Egerton as Elton John in Rocketman from Paramount Pictures.

One of the biggest omissions from this year’s “big category” nominations was the widely acclaimed Rocketman, starring Taron Egerton.

The Dorian Award from the Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics has shortlisted 6 LGBT+ films for its awards including, Booksmart, End of the Century, Pain and Glory, Portrait of a Lady on Fire and Rocketman.

One of American Idol’s most successful singers, Adam Lambert is to make Glambert history when he performs at the Oscars live on the 24th of February 2019.

Of course, the film, Bohemian Rhapsody, the biopic on the rise and rise of Freddie Mercury and Queen is up for numerous awards.

Taking to Twitter The Academy Awards announced that the iconic band and 2009 American Idol runner-up would perform together on the show.

“Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? We welcome @QueenWillRock and @adamlambert to this year’s #Oscars,” the Tweet read.

The song which the band and Adam will perform hasn’t been announced but it is thought that they will play the song from which the film gets its name, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.

  • Oscars 2018 – The winners and the ones that should win

Oscars 2018 – The winners and the ones that should win

Once again it’s my annual review of the Oscars looking at who should win against who will win at the Kodak Theatre in barmy Hollywood on March 4th, 2018.

Will this year’s Call Me By Your Name feature in Paul’s Oscar predictions?

As always the top twenty movies of the last year are wholly absent from the nominations and there is such a wide chasm between what the critics ejaculate over and then win trophies as to what people actually want to go and see, buy popcorn and snuggle with a hot guy in the back row.

If you are a true movie fan, read on and see what the Oscars should be like if they gave statuettes to people and films folks have heard off and those with a gay bent.

BEST PICTURE – Should Win: Paddington 2 The highest rated movie in IMDB/Rotten Tomatoes history because every single critic loved it…

Will Win: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri if the aged voters can put up with all the swearing ‘f*cks’ and ‘c*nts’ throughout, (it is f*cking good though)

BEST ACTOR – Should Win: Chris Hemsworth’s member in bulging spandex in Thor Ragnarok or Arnie Hammer The Man From Uncle and Lone Ranger kissing a bloke and seeming to love it…

Will Win: Gary Oldman for the Darkest Hour well that is good make-up for ya.

BEST ACTRESS – Should Win: Gal Gadot for busting everyone’s balls in the megahit WonderWoman or Emma Watson who with Beauty and The Beast became the biggest box-office female earner of all time and she is British…

Will Win: Frances McDormand who is very good in an Oscar-baiting way in Three Billboards.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR – Should Win: Dwayne Johnson’s speedos in Baywatch and Jon Hamm’s tight jeans in Baby Driver or possibly Hugh Grant in Paddington 2

Will Win: Sam Rockwell in a career-best performance in Three Billboards with the best character arc of all time.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS – Should Win: Keela Settle for her Top 10 charting great gay anthem showstopping song ‘This Is Me’ in The Greatest Showman

Will Win: Laurie Metcalf in Ladybird but we preferred her on TV in Roseanne.

ANIMATION – Should Win: Johnny Depp’s acting in the appalling Pirates 5.….

Will Win: Coco, yes the incredible out of this world Coco…..is it the best-animated film in history?… quite possibly.

Best Foreign Language Film – No such thing according to my dictionary but if so it should go to T2Trainspotting 2 as we could not understand a bloody word…

Will win: the Swedish film nominated but there is a Russian nominee, and we all know how they like to fix results in their favour!

Costume Design – Should Win: Baywatch great tight beach gear on Dwayne Johnson and sex god Zac Efron.

Will Win: Unfortunately Victoria and Abdul which is the filmic equivalent of sleeping tablets.

Directing – Should Win: Edgar Wright for the hit of the summer Baby Driver.

Will win: Guillermo Del Toro for the monster shagging under the sea in The Shape Of Water.

Editing – Should Win: Baby Driver as it was just so cool.

Will Win: Dunkirk possibly the most overrated film of the year and boy did it do very poor business overseas.

Makeup & Hair Styling – Should Win: War Of The Planet Of The Apes by a mile.

Will Win: The Darkest Hour (Yawnnnnnn !).

Music – Should Win: Beauty And The Beast or The Greatest Showman both great musicals BUT…

Will Win: Dunkirk purely because of who the composer was. No more WW2 movies for a bit, please.

Original Song – Should Win: “Days In The Sun” or “Evermore” from Beauty And The Beast

Will Win: This Is Me The new great Gay Anthem from The Greatest Showman still climbing the charts one month on and a trophy will help it gain eternal popularity.

Sound Mixing – Should Win: Thor Ragnarok, Marvel’s hit of the year and third biggest film ever.

Will Win: Star Wars The Last Jedi.

Visual Effects – Should Win: The genuinely incredible record-breaking Fast And Furious 8

Will Win: Blade Runner 2049 now officially one of the year’s biggest flops.

Adapted Screenplay – Should Win: Call Me By Your Name, and it will win too – simply the best gay film since a couple of cowboys f*cked on a mountain without any douching facilities.

Original Screenplay – Should Win: Baby Driver

Will Win: Get Out which was a very clever little profitable movie.

The Gay Oscar Film of the YearBaywatch for the sex appeal, Wonderwoman for the camp and Call Me By your Name for taking the LGBT+ film world forward.

Stunt of the year – Arnie Hammers tonsil cleaning scene with his hot younger lover in Call or 15 separate sections of Fast and Furious 8 THE action movie of the year and the second biggest earner worldwide and boy was The Stath funny.

Hunk Of The Year – In a year where we had Zac Efron on the beach, pure hot man roles for Arnie Hammer, Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pratt the award goes to…..drum roll… Hugh Jackman who bowed out from Wolverine in Logan after nine movies and even more years with his shirt off showing an eight pack and sweating muscles which has been a work of pure gym and eating dedication for a decade.

Lifetime GAYUK Achievement Award – Superstud and man mountain Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson the former wrestler with a body to die for and die under started the year with the astonishing Fast and Furious 8 and finished it in the number one slot with Jumanji Welcome To The Jungle knocking Star Wars for six after just a fortnight and giving it a bloody nose or sore ass becoming the Winter surprise hit of the year.

Obituary of the Year – The Transformers franchise – what a f*ck up, Celebrity cameos Beckham in Robin Hood, Sheeran in Game Of Thrones, McCartney in Pirates, Ade Edmondson in Star Wars… please please make it stop; Also the end of TV movie reboots as Baywatch and CHIPS suffer, and many other careers go pear-shaped (Tom cruise in the terrible Mummy!) as huge blockbusters bomb like never before….The Great Wall, Dark Tower, Pirates 5 and Assassins Creed to name some of the biggest bombs of 2017.

The Oscars failed to mention Alexis Arquette “In Memoriam” despite having over 70 film credits

Alexis Arquette was left out of the Oscar’s in memory segment which paid tribute to stars who died in 2016.

Speaking to ABC Alexis Arquette’s sister, Patricia Arquette said she was “really pissed off” with the Academy after they seemingly snubbed the star. She said,

“I was really pissed off the academy left out my sister Alexis in the Memoriam, because Alexis had a great body of work, but Alexis was one of very few trans artists that worked in the business,”

“At a time when we have trans kids that can’t even go to the bathroom at school, you would think the academy would have a little bit more respect for a group of people that are murdered, and trans women of color are most likely to live in extreme poverty, making $800 a month, so I think the Oscars have a lot of learning to do.”

  • Zachary Quinto and his boyfriend Miles McMillian looked super cute together at the Oscars

Boyfriends Zachary Quinto and Miles McMillian hit the town last night and looked super cute together.

Zachary Quntion and his boyfriend Miles McMillian were spotted together last night, first the Oscars where they held hands in front of the world’s media, then the Vanity Fair party and then the pair joined a galaxy of stars, including Adam Lambert, Ricky Martin and Bryan Singer at the outrageously gorgeous Elton John Foundation Oscar party.

Zachary, 39 and his 25-year-old model beau who have been dating for over three years, wore matching bow ties, but the Star Trek actor, Zachary opted for a more vibrant jacket with a gold motif. Miles took a more traditional route wearing a classic black tux.

Also in attendance at Elton’s lavish party was the director and producer Bryan Singer who was seen hugging Elton’s husband, David Furnish.

  • Moonlight becomes the first ever gay themed Best Picture at the Oscars

Moonlight becomes the first ever gay themed Best Picture at the Oscars

Moonlight has made history after becoming the first gay-themed film to win Best Picture at the Oscars.

In spite of a wrongly announced Best Picture, Moonlight actually took top place at this year’s Oscars and in doing so made history as the first gay-themed film to ever get the top prize.

In 2006 Brokeback Mountain came close receiving 8 nominations, the most of any film that year. In the end, it won three of them but was pipped at the post for the ultimate award by Crash.

There hasn’t been an LGBT-themed film nominated for Best Picture since 2014’s Dallas Buyers Club in which the film’s stars, Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto both won gongs for their performances.

  • Oh wow. The wrong Best Picture was just read out at the Oscars and it got very very awkward

Oh wow. The wrong Best Picture was just read out at the Oscars and it got very very awkward

Oscars 2017 will go down in history as probably one of the most awkward ever after the wrong film got called as the “best picture”.

So there was a massive, monumental eff up on the Oscars this year after, it seems, the wrong announcement card was given to Warren Beatty. We wondered why Warren took so long to announce the winner. In the end, it was Faye Dunaway who read out the mistake that La La Land had won “Best Picture”.

The card read: Emma Stone, La La Land, the only problem was that the card was for the earlier category of Best Actress. The actual winner, Moonlight, was supposed to be in that envelope.

    https://twitter.com/SandyraN4/status/836118866946375681

Only after the cast and crew of La La Land had done their acceptance speeches was the mistake made clear in one of the most awkward hand overs we’ve ever witnessed.

Warren was forced to announce, “This is not a joke” as he tried to explain the issue.

“I wasn’t trying to be funny,” he told the audience and the millions of viewers at home, as he explained that the duo had been handed the previous winner’s card. “That’s why I looked at Faye for a really long time”.

Anyway, watch it unfold with Twitter moments:

OPINION | The films that should win an Oscar and those that actually will…

Every year at THEGAYUK we list the films and stars that should win the Oscar picked from films that people have actually seen as opposed to over rated critics favourites that couldn’t sell a tub of popcorn in a million years.

CREDIT: DWilliams / CC / Pixabay

None of the top twenty most viewed films of the last year are up for any of the important Oscars which shows the disconnect from what the chattering coffee swilling elite of Soho want you to see – usually involving an ex-war refugee with family issues and a terminal illness as opposed to the latest Star Wars, Pixar or Superhero which actually put bums on seats and made it way beyond a single art house screen in a leafy part of West London.

Has anyone actually seen Moonlight, Hidden Figures, Loving or Fences anyway and if you have, tune in on Feb 26th to see the results from The Kodak Theatre with the ever decreasing viewing figures the show now attracts.

If you are a movie fan read on and see what the Oscars should be like if they gave statuettes to people and films folks have heard off.

Sound Mixing – Should Win: Rogue One : A Star Wars StoryWill Win: La La Land as the voters don’t really know what Sound Mixing is but it’s a musical so it must have some, right?

Adapted Screenplay – Should Win: ArrivalWill Win: Moonlight (God help us – we give up!)

  • Sam Smith Wins Best Original Song Oscar

Sam Smith Wins Best Original Song Oscar

Sam Smith Won Best Song Oscar for his Bond Theme, Writing’s On The Wall.

Sam Smith has won “Best Original Song” for his Bond Theme, Writing’s On The Wall.

Sam took the opportunity in his acceptance speech to acknowledge the LGBT community and dedicate his song to the community, however misquoted Sir Ian McKellen, by say that no gay person had won an Oscar.

Earlier in the year Sir Ian had asked the question why no gay man has ever won Best Actor?

Sam misquoted Sir Ian, and said that no gay person had won any oscar of any sort, and said,

“If this is the case, even if it isn’t the case, I want to dedicate this to the LGBT community all around the world. I stand here tonight as a proud gay man.”

However a number of openly gay people have won at the Oscars, and indeed at least four have won in his category including Sir Elton John, Stephen Sondheim and Howard Ashman and Melissa Etheridge won an Oscar for her song, I Need To Wake Up, from An Inconvenient Truth in 2006.

Sir Elton won his Oscar for “The Lion King’s” Can You Feel The Love Tonight in 1994, which he shares with Tim Rice. Stephen Sondheim won an Oscar for his song “Sooner Or Later (I Always Get My Man)” in 1990 from the film “Dick Tracy”.

Howard Ashman won his Oscar for Beauty And The Beast in 1991.

Sam’s astonishing snub or lack of education in Oscar wins led Oscar winner, Dustin Lance Black to lash out at Sam on Twitter – suggesting that he stop text his Fiancé, Tom Daley.
