  • Journalist Dean Eastmond passes away aged just 21

Dean Eastmond, who created the HISKIND magazine has passed away aged just 21.

Dean, who had become a bit of a social media legend because of his epic and brave battle against cancer, has sadly passed away at the age of 21. He had been sharing his journey on Twitter – receiving hundreds of messages of support from fans and celebs alike.

Dean was diagnosed with cancer last year at the age of 20 when he was studying at University. He had been suffering from Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare form of bone and soft tissue cancer. Twelve months on and his valiant efforts to keep upbeat during his many treatments made him a social star.

During his treatment, Dean created the HISKIND magazine, to bring attention to the stigma and discrimination that many LGBT+ people face when diagnosed with cancer.

In July, Dean, got the surprise of his life when a video message was broadcast in front of thousands in Trafalgar Square at Pride In London.

Speaking about discovering he was living with cancer he wrote for the Guardian,

“In mid-Jun, I was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma – a rare soft tissue cancer growing off my ninth rib. I first noticed a problem after my housemates and I decided to have a party to celebrate making it through our first term of uni. The morning afterwards, I felt an excruciating pain in my side. I took a couple of paracetamol and shrugged it off as a drunken bump from the night before, but when I noticed a prominent protrusion of a rib a few months later, I knew something was clearly not right. Within a few weeks, my life went from normal to a series of scans, tests and biopsies, leading to a swift diagnosis”.

The news of his death has shocked many in the LGBT+ community, with stars and fans of Dean’s work, paying tribute to the writer.

  • This guy wants to ban the Rainbow flag because it’s offensive to straight people

All those pretty colours are sooooo offensive.

A radio host in the US has called for the ban of the international LGBT symbol, the rainbow flag to be banned because… it’s offensive to people, just like the Confederate flag and argued that you couldn’t ban one – without banning the other.

Bryan Fisher was speaking on American Family Radio about the controversy surrounding the removal of Confederate flags and monuments before launching into a tirade about how offensive the rainbow flag was.

    He said,

“There’s a lot of attention right now to get rid of the Confederate flag. There’s a public school system in North Carolina that’s completely banned the confederate flag because it is divisive.

    “So, no more Confederate flag.

“There’s another symbol that is just as divisive… If we are going to ban the Confederate flag because it is divisive, how about we ban the LGBT flag at school?

“If we are going to ban the Confederate flag at school because it creates division because it is offensive to people, I propose that everywhere the Confederate flag is banned… at the same time the LGBT rainbow flag be banned, at exactly the same time for exactly the same reasons.

“It is offensive, it is contrary to our most deeply held values, it divides people, it does not bring them together.

“It’s time to have the LGBT flag banned right alongside the Confederate flag. If we’re going to ban one, I submit we need to ban the other.”

    So there you have it.

  • Convicted murderer from the 80s, jailed for second attempted murder of lover

A convicted murderer has been jailed for the attempted murder of ANOTHER MAN after dating app hook up goes hideously wrong.

    • Peter Lund was originally convicted of a murder of man in 1980.

    • He was released in 2015.

    • Now he has been jailed for the attempted murder of another man he found on a dating app.

Peter James Lund (09/01/1954) of Pett Level Road, Winchelsea Beach, East Sussex has been jailed for attempted murder after being found guilty at an earlier hearing.

    Dating App Meeting Gone Wrong

In December 2016, Lund travelled to Manchester to see a man he met on a dating app and spent the evening with him, after taking him to a Chinese takeaway in his silver Jaguar.

A few days later, Lund and the man spent the evening together watching television and making plans for New Year’s Eve before going to sleep.

At around 6.15am the next morning, Wednesday 21 December, the man awoke to an extremely sharp pain in the right of his neck.

He opened his eyes to see Lund standing over him holding a knife and, when he asked him in disbelief what he was doing, Lund professed it was his sharp fingernails that had caused the pain.

The victim panicked, shouting at Lund to get off him and pushed him away but, as he did so, his neck was slashed and a struggle ensued with Lund grabbing the man’s shoulder before reaching into his mouth and pulling at his teeth with force.

The struggle reached the kitchen area where Lund took a knife while the man fled to the bathroom to mop his wounds with a towel.

    Covered in blood

With them both covered in blood and unclothed, the fight spilled out into the communal corridor with Lund brandishing the large serrated knife and chasing the man as he ran up and down, banging on other doors trying to escape the attack.

Lund tried to drag him back into the flat but he was disarmed by the man who quickly got into a lift and ran to a nearby petrol station to raise the alarm.

Lund ran back inside, cleaned himself up and fled around three minutes later in his Jaguar towards Great Yarmouth where he was arrested by officers, after a short manhunt, on suspicion of attempted murder.

When under arrest, an officer told Lund, ‘I’m not saying you have done it, it’s just on suspicion,’ Lund quickly interjected and admitted the attack, saying ‘I’ve done it!’

    Previous murder

Manchester Crown Court, Crown Square, heard Lund had spent a large amount of his life in prison, having been convicted of murder in 1980 after he bludgeoned another man to death in his bed.

He has today, Wednesday 30 August 2017, been jailed for 27 years.

    Harrowing

Detective Constable Tom Munnery of GMP’s City of Manchester team said,

“This vicious and savage attack on a sleeping man is absolutely stomach-turning with the only consolation being Lund will be in prison for a considerable time.

“In what was clearly a harrowing situation, the victim thought fast to raise the alarm and ensure Lund was found and put behind bars.

“Having to relive these events through the court case has been no mean feat but the bravery and strength shown by the victim is truly commendable. My thanks goes to him for his courage and my thoughts will remain with him as he recovers from the emotional and physical scars he has had to endure.”

GBBO's Tom's twin brother killed in action in Afghanistan

The identical twin brother of gay GBBO contestant, Tom Hetherington was killed in action, serving the army in 2013. Robert Hetherington was killed when he was just 25 in Helmand province when a Taliban explosion hit the armoured vehicle he was travelling in.

Private Robert was just six weeks into his tour. A hidden explosive killed him, along with Corporal William Savage, 30 and Fusilier Samuel Flint, 21. The inquest into their deaths ruled that the soldiers had been unlawfully killed as they were not alerted to insurgent activity.

Since the death of his brother, Tom has started running marathons across the globe to raise money for the Royal British Legion and Poppy Scotland.

Brother has become the inspiration to work harder

According to the Daily Star, Tom, who lives in Edinburgh with his partner, said that his late twin inspired him to work harder, saying, “With every training session I can hear Robert pushing me to go a little faster, a little harder.

“Completing another marathon will be a testament to the strength I have gained from him and to show the strength he used and showed regularly.”

Tom is currently taking part in the brand new series of Great British Bake Off, which moved to Channel 4 in 2017 after they bought the series for a reported £75 million.

In a video, which he posted to his Instagram page the actor, stated, ““I am a gay, Muslim, Arab-American man, and I’m going to take it even further. Not only am I gay, but I’m also a bottom.”

He made the post in reference to the news that more LGBT+ people have been killed in the US so far this year, than in the whole of 2016, excluding the Pulse Massacre.

The 41-year-old actor had a message for homophobes as well in his message,

“To all the homophobes living in the United States of America and across the globe, Why not?

“If you ever come to me to kill me just because I’m gay, I will destroy you. I might be gay, and I might be a nice guy, but don’t get it twisted because I will f*ck you up.”

This isn’t the first mention on the subject of sexuality, however, the hunk has been laying down a lot of LGBT+ positive messages on his social feeds recently, but it’s the first time he’s officially said the words!

A former Olympian and BBC presenter has come out as gay in the most chilled way.

Colin Jackson, 50, a former Olympic hurdler and now BBC sports commentator has come out as gay on Swedish television.

The 50-year-old came out in a TV interview with SVT reporters Kajsa Bergqvist and Peter Häggström. He had previously denied rumours about his sexuality when a kiss and tell story surfaced about him in the mid-noughties.

He said that he previously decided not to come out because he worried that the press would ‘sensationalise’ his private life.

The news was revealed on the Swedish series Rainbow Heroes because of what he described as their careful and “in-depth” choice of questions.

He told Kajsa, “The way you asked me, it was a whole storytelling kind of thing and you were just interested in the way it affected me sports-wise, emotionally-wise and my preparation.”

Bravo! Another sportsman comes out – shatter that sports cupboard/closet!

  • Fresh hopes for the iconic Black Cap in London

There are new hopes for the reopening of the Black Cap, the iconic gay pub and cabaret venue on Camden High Street, which closed its doors in April 2015.

Members of the Black Cap Foundation community campaign group to reopen the venue met representatives of Kicking Horse, who own the freehold of the Black Cap site. Representatives of Camden council and the GLA culture-at-risk team were also present.

All sides agreed to work together to identify a new, third-party leaseholder to reopen the Black Cap as an LGBT+ venue with cabaret performance at its heart as soon as possible.

Black Cap Foundation director Alex Green said:

“We’re thrilled at this agreement. This is a crucial step towards our goal of reopening the Black Cap, and we welcome the cooperation of the freeholders and the support of Camden council and the GLA in making that a reality.

“We’ve always believed the Black Cap’s unique, irreplaceable legacy of community and culture is worth fighting for, and can’t wait to see how it will be reinvented next.”

A spokesperson for Kicking Horse said:

“We very much hope to find the leaseholder with the right vision, experience and resources to begin a brand new chapter for this world-famous venue.”

The Black Cap has been a space for the gay community since before partial decriminalisation of homosexuality in 1967. Known as the ‘Palladium of Drag’, it has hosted residencies by groundbreaking performers such as Lily Savage, Mrs Shufflewick and Regina Fong, after whom the pub’s first-floor Shufflewick Bar and Fong Terrace are named. More recently, it was home to the Family Fierce, who showcased acts from RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Since the 2015 closure, the Black Cap Foundation has maintained a weekly Saturday afternoon vigil outside the pub, celebrating the venue’s past and sharing stories with local residents while campaigning for its reopening.

The Black Cap’s new leaseholder will take on a 25-year lease for the five-storey building at 171 Camden High Street. The site has Asset of Community Status and sui generis planning use class and requires significant capital expenditure.
