  • Trump’s administration demands the IP details to everyone who visited an anti-Trump website

    A petition to stop President Trump’s administration from gaining access to the personal data of those who visited an anti-Trump website has reached hundreds of thousands of people.

    A warrant from the Department of Justice (DOJ) is seeking to reveal every person who visited an anti-Trump website. On the 17th July, the DOJ served a website hosting company, DreamHost with a search warrant for information which relates to a website which was used to coordinate protests during Donald Trump’s inauguration event back in January.

    The DOJ reports to the United States Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, who was appointed by the President of the United States.

    The warrant includes a search on data about the website’s owners and over 1.3 million people who visited that site.

    Overreaching Government?

    The petition, which is hosted by the Avaaz petitioning site, is calling the request by the US Administration an investigatory overreach and threatens to violate the privacy and safety of millions of internet users.

    The petition reads,

    To Judge Morin and the Superior Court of the District of Columbia:

    We call on you to rule in favour of DreamHost in the matter of the search of www.disruptj20.org.

    The request for citizens’ data by the Trump administration is investigatory overreach and violates the privacy and compromises the safety of millions of people inside the US and around the world.

    The search warrant requested is an outrageous abuse of government authority by the Department of Justice and should be denied by the court.

    The website in question is www.disruptj20.org, which was used to organise demonstrations and protests on the 20th January during Trump’s inauguration.

    Dreamhost which hosts the site said it was going to challenge the request in court.

    They said,

    “DreamHost, like many online service providers, is approached by law enforcement regularly to provide information about customers who may be the subject of criminal investigations.

    “These types of requests are not uncommon; our legal department reviews and scrutinizes each request and, when necessary, rejects and challenges vague or faulty orders

    “You would be shocked to see just how many of these challenges we’re obligatedto mount every year!

    “Chris Ghazarian, our General Counsel, has taken issue with this particular search warrant for being a highly untargeted demand that chills free association and the right of free speech afforded by the Constitution”.

    Peep Show legends, David Mitchell and Robert Webb are back on Channel 4 with a brand new show called Back.

    Back is an acerbic new comedy, written by Emmy-award winning Simon Blackwell (Veep, In The Loop, Peep Show) and starring the inimitable and award-winning David Mitchell and Robert Webb (Peep Show, That Mitchell and Webb Look). The series marks the duo’s return to Channel 4. Back is directed by Ben Palmer (The Inbetweeners Movie, Man Up) and produced by Kate Daughton (Toast of London).

    Stephen’s (David Mitchell) father, a local legend and pub landlord, has died so Stephen is set to – finally – take over the pub. Mum Ellen (Penny Downie) and sister Cass (Louise Brealey) have no interest in the family business – they’re ‘creative’, with weed to buy and energy-centres to rebalance.

    With his dad dead, it’s now Stephen’s chance to shine. His only achievements so far have been marriage (followed by divorce), a failed stint as a lawyer in London and a slightly disappointing pub refurb. But when the charming Andrew (Robert Webb) turns up out of the blue at Laurie’s funeral, Stephen’s plans go awry. Charismatic Andrew has lived in Sydney, Amsterdam, Lisbon, Berlin and Limoges but crucially, spent five formative months fostered by Laurie and Ellen as a 12-year-old. To Stephen, Andrew was just one of a string of 30-odd foster kids who he spent his childhood resenting. But Andrew remembers every single detail and sees that time as the most important of his life.

    Now Andrew’s back, and keen to revisit the closest thing he’s ever had to a family. Ellen loves Andrew. Cass loves Andrew. Even Laurie’s erratic brother Uncle Geoff (Geoff McGivern) loves Andrew.

    But Stephen doesn’t love Andrew. He thinks he’s a glib, dangerous sociopath who’s about to steal his family, his business and his life.

    The new series of Great British Bake Off is back for its 8th series and is on a new channel – so when is it on and what channel can you find it on?

    Great British Bake Off starts on the 29th August and carries on for 10 weeks on Channel 4.

    Over the next 10 weeks, 12 of the best amateur bakers in Britain will whisk, knead, ice, beat and bake their way through classic British cakes, perfect patisserie, Italian delights, sticky caramel constructions and elaborate layered puddings.

    All Twelve will be hoping to impress with their skill, creativity, knowledge and passion and clinch the Bake off Crown.

    Each of the 30 new challenges have been carefully designed by judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith to reveal just who is a star baker.

    But it’s not just a new experience for the bakers. Also joining the tent for the first time are Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding, who will be with the bakers every step of the way, ready with a pertinent pep talk, a helpful hand or just a sympathetic shoulder to cry on…

  • THEATRE REVIEW | Between The Sheets, Underbelly, London

    ★★★★ | Between The Sheets

    Between The Sheets, Underbelly, London

    London’s most famous burlesque entertainer – Miss Polly Rae – is hosting a new show at London’s Underbelly Festival on the Southbank. It’s Between the Sheets, and between you and me it’s fabulous!

    Polly Rae, along with a cavalcade of other naughty acts, perform a variety of skits while scantily clad in a show that’s fun, and dare we say it, titillating. There’s so much on offer in the show for both men and women as Rae’s performers delight the late night audiences with the ability to do a variety of stunts while simultaneously taking their clothes off.

    Come and watch the amazing duo of Duo Visage (Beau Sargent and Sam Smith) combine their spectacular artistry, along with their perfectly lithe bodies, as they do spectacular stunts on the stage in a venue where every seat in the house is good. Then there is Tom Cunningham and Myles Brown, two very good-looking men who take off all of their clothes in one very cute skit while in another scene they most memorably perform a romantic and sensual dance with each other that’s both erotic and emotional and very memorable. We are then treated to the very funny Lilly Snatchdragon who provides comic relief in between the flesh-baring performers. But it’s Kitty Kitty Bang Bang who impresses us the most with her fire eating skills along with her splashing around in a very large cocktail glass semi-filled with water. Did I also mention that she’s scantily clad while doing this? And the gorgeous Beau Rocks rounds out the cast of Between the Sheets, and rounds out just simply describes her and her amazing body and personality.

    Playing for a limited time only, Between the Sheets will literally thrill you out of your seat with a spectacular show which takes place in one of London’s best venues. Kudos to Miss Polly Rae for bringing this sort of burlesque show back to London in a visually stunning and hilarious romp. It’s a night out that you will truly not forget.

    There are three more shows left of Between the Sheets – all on Fridays: August 25th, September 8th, and September 29th.

     

  • Afternoon Tea Review | Lost and Found, Birmingham

    ★★★★ | Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea and Tipples

    Afternoon Tea is a delightful, British experience which we do not often do. The fresh sandwiches, the warm scones, the ever-flowing tea and the high-end service is something of a treat nowadays. The Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea at Lost and Found takes all you know about tea and cranks it up a notch – and all for just £18.95 per person.

    To start off our afternoon marathon, we were greeted with a glass of prosecco each with a raspberry, and Josh provided us a warm and friendly service throughout. The menu for the Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea consists of meaty, bulky and monster sandwiches which were packed with flavour and you could taste the freshness with every bite. Crispy chicken and chorizo on a ginormous baguette halved was spectacular – fresh rocket and well-cooked chicken with just the right amount of chorizo that let the southern style chicken take centre stage. The glazed ham and homemade chutney baguette was very rich on the palate and the sweetness of the chutney really complemented the meat with an added crunch from the lettuce. The egg, mustard and cress sandwich was a really nice light and fluffy mix to the board. My favourite thing that went in my mouth, though, was the scotch eggs – what a highlight! The egg was cooked perfectly and freshly which had the yolk running and put your knife through, with delicious batter and pork paste full of flavour and the combination together sent fireworks. The feta cheese and caramelised onion pastry was another delicate yet fierce competitor for the palate. The pork scratching on chilli jam was okay, I found the scratching too hard to chew and it was just one on each ramekin with loads of chilli sauce underneath – not sure how I feel about this one. The scones were average, did not really stand out as a feature, but popcorn Tiffin was superb. The teapot was very big which meant we probably got about 5 cups each which was enough to go with until the food-athon was over.

    You can opt for any of the Afternoon Teas and attach a Tipple, where you select from one of the three cocktails to spice up the experience for an extra £5. It is definitely worth doing that.

    In the end, it was too much and we had to admit defeat – doggy-bagging half of the crispy chicken and chorizo baguette and two Tiffin cakes. I must say, I had the sandwich for my lunch the day after and it was equally as tasty and fresh as the day before. It shows that good ingredients and care is put into the afternoon tea platters. Presentation wise, it could have been more ornate considering the grandiose nature of Lost and Found with its botanical themes in the décor. I was half expecting some leaves to contribute to the aesthetics, but the whole tea was served on one slate board. It looked great, but I could have done with separating the cakes from the sandwiches for practicality.
