The Chicago Review of Books announces it will not review any Simon Schuster books in 2017 because of Milo Yiannopoulos

The Chicago Review of Books has said it will not review any products published by publisher Simon & Schuster in 2017.

    Milo Yiannopoulos

The publisher Simon & Schuster is facing a huge backlash after it was revealed that it was publishing a book by the controversial conservative figurehead, Milo Yiannopoulos. Taking to Twitter, The Chicago Review of Books, an “independent literary review dedicated to cultivating awareness”, said that it’s decision to boycott the publisher was in response to the “disgusting validation of hate”. They said they would not cover a single book of the publisher in 2017.

The book, Dangerous, is being released by an imprint, Threshold Editions, owned by one of the world’s biggest publishers. The book deal offered to Milo is reported to be worth $250,000 and has told critics,”withhold judgment until they have had a chance to read” the book.

Within a day Milo had cracked the top 100 Amazon best seller list ahead of The Princess Diaries by Carrie Fisher.

The book reviewer reviewed 15 books by the publisher last year and that it would in 2017 review 15 books from independent and small publishers.

Another of London’s iconic gay bars is to close revealing that unsustainable rent hikes are the cause.

Popular gay bar in South London closing due to rent hikes

Clapham in south London is to see the closure of one of its two gay bars thanks to unsustainable rent increases. Kazbar, which opened its doors in 1995, will have its last day of business on the 1st of January. The Two Brewers, which is local to the Kazbar, will remain open.

A statement released via its Facebook page said that after 20 years the bar would be shuttered from the 1st of January after its annual New Year’s Eve party.

    The post reads,

“After 20 years of being the iconic gay bar of South London, we regret to inform you that we will be closing down this year.

“We will hold our last “New Year’s Eve” party until 6 am as usual. But we would love you to join us for the last goodbye drinks of the 1st January until our normal closing time.

“Thanks for your support all these years”

Amy Lamé who was appointed by Sadiq Khan as London’s “night czar” revealed that a rent increase from £86,000 per year to £150,000  was the reason behind the decision to close the bar.

THEGAYUK.com has been following the closure of LGBT bars in London since 2000. Since the turn of the century over 105 LGBT venues have closed.

Which David McIntosh picture got removed by Instagram (again)

It seems as though Instagram really has a problem with David McIntosh’s penis outline.

Gladiator‘s and Celebrity Big Brother star David McIntosh keeps getting his pictures removed by Instagram, despite not actually showing any naughty bits. Earlier in 2016, the reality king had a number of pictures removed by angry Insta bosses, and it’s become a bit of a cat and mouse game with the star uploading pictures and the tech giant removing them.

Well, he recently uploaded another picture featuring underwear from the @raphaelwear underwear range and the picture was removed within hours. He even commented that he thought the social media platform would remove the picture even though there was no nudity or pornography in the picture.

So what was the offending picture?

Speaking to THEGAYUK.com David admitted that he was “heartbroken” that Insta bosses kept removing his pictures and that he “couldn’t deal with this prejudice from Instagram”.

Anyway here’s a racy piccy they haven’t deleted yet.

Authorities in Oxfordshire, where the “Careless Whisper” singer had a home, have confirmed that the  “cause of death is not immediately apparent” and that a post-mortem is due to take place in “due course”.

In a statement, the office said,

“The death of Mr George Michael has been reported to the Oxfordshire Coroner’s Office.

“As with all deaths where the cause of death is not immediately apparent, a post-mortem examination is to be undertaken in due course in order to confirm the cause of death.

“All of this is in accordance with normal procedures and does not imply that there is currently any reason to believe the cause of death is in any way suspicious.”

But before you get too excited, he’s straight and married to singer and actor Camila Sodi. They have two children together.

  • 60 SECOND FILM REVIEW | Star Wars Rogue One

60 SECOND FILM REVIEW | Star Wars Rogue One

ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY – Completely separate stand-alone Star Wars movie with all new characters telling the story that leads right up to the split second the original classic started back in 1977 when Leia leads the plans into R2D2 and Darth bursts through that door.

    Rogue One Star Wars review
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story..L to R: Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) and Cassian Andor (Diego Luna)..Ph: Jonathan Olley..© 2016 Lucasfilm Ltd. All Rights Reserved.

Nutshell – The Empire is developing an ultimate weapon thought to be a planet killer which we of course we know becomes the Death Star. The Rebels have a plan to stop it which involves stealing its original plans which all goes well until Darth Vader turns up and then people start dying… an awful lot of people.

    Running Time – 133 minutes; Certificate – 12A

Tagline – ‘Save The Rebellion, Save The Dream’

The Gay UK Factor – Loads of hot guys in uniforms makes for a good starting place. The second Star Wars in a row to have a female lead but this time we have a very sexy guy at her side in the form of the hottest Mexican you have ever seen Diego Luna playing Cassian Andor and boy does that tight rebel uniform sticks to him in all the right places – we wonder if all the other stormtroopers & rebels are also horse-hung as he appears to be.

Cast – Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Adam Tudyk plus some major stars like Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Jimmy Smits and the very f**kable Ben Mendelsohn plus Peter Cushing and others photoshopped in for Seventies memory jerks.

Key Player – The Star Wars saga has produced the best three robots in cinema history – time to meet number Four. K2SO is a Seven-foot new favourite and this robot seems as though he has been a regular performer down the Comedy Store for ages – you will laugh a lot.

Budget – $200 Million the second biggest of the year and it is expected to make four times that back at least as there is little competition in theatres at present and it is only 11 months until the next one….Kerching !

Best Bit – 1.50 mins; Two of the main characters have to climb up a giant indoor tower in a control room under fire in the best action sequence in the movie – all very exciting, time is running out fast and will they both survive?

Worst Bit – 0.31 mins; With all new characters, it takes a bit of time to get going and there is a lot of introductions and expositions required. This is most apparent in a drawn out prison scene when you have really come to see lazer duels and starship battles.

Little Secret – The inside of the Death Star was filmed at Canary Wharf underground station outside of normal hours. The most famous scene in the trailer where the lead female character on a platform comes face to face with a Tie fighter is not in the movie at all surprisingly but will be on the DVD release in 2017

Further Viewing – Star Wars 1 – 7 are basic canon for the enjoyment of this also try Star Trek 1-13, Battlestar Galactica, Independence Day, The Black Hole and a million other spaceship battle movies that have become big-screen staples or anything with loads of sword battles like say Game of Thrones before it became repetitive.

Any Good – This is very impressive stuff and with a tonne of surprises linked with a multitude of nostalgia and throwbacks to earlier (or later) films. The British director breaks a lot of rules here yet sticks to the standard plot build up of the recent SW movies. This will make megabucks and deservedly so and now we head into the Fortieth Anniversary year with the biggest movie yet on the horizon and one a year guaranteed from now on so it’s good times if you feel the force and bad news if you prefer Poldark, Grantchester and Downton type snore bores.

Rating – 86% out of a hundred (That’s 10% up from the Force Awakens)

  • What’s the weirdest job you’ve ever been given at work?

The top 50 weirdest tasks that workers have been given to do at their jobs and it gets weird.

Peeling the pith from satsuma segments, stacking coat hangers and unknotting Christmas lights are amongst the most bizarre jobs Brits have been asked to do at work, according to new research.

A study of 2,000 workers across the country has revealed a top 50 list of the most unusual – and sometimes inappropriate – tasks assigned to employees.

This includes polishing cutlery with vinegar, shredding paper manually, removing hair from hairbrushes and dressing in a sandwich board in public.

Researchers found requests from the boss sometimes go from the sublime to the ridiculous – one unlucky respondent revealed they were asked to follow another member of staff who left work, as the boss suspected that rather than being ill, he was off to the pub.

Another, during their military career, was tasked with ironing ordnance survey maps simply so they would lie flat on the wall.

And a third was asked to work overtime to allow another colleague to nip home and make love – as his partner was at the fertile point in her month.

Jeremy Hulme, Chief Executive of working animal charity SPANA, which conducted the study, said,

“It’s surprising to see just how many British workers are routinely expected to carry out tasks that are a long way from their job description and that they didn’t sign up for. Many bosses seem comfortable asking their staff to perform duties that are bizarre and beyond the call of duty.

“However, although having to fulfil menial or unusual tasks can be a frustrating part of working life in the UK, these problems seem very minor compared to the tough working conditions endured every day by working animals in developing countries. These animals work long hours, often carrying back-breaking loads, with no holidays, retirement or sick days.”

A number of people surveyed have been asked to clean the toilets or sweep the floors at work, which were widely seen as unreasonable and unexpected requests in non-cleaning roles.

The study revealed one unfortunate respondent was asked to clean her boss’ house as his wife had left him, and his sister was coming to visit.

Another was asked to babysit a colleague’s children while continuing with their normal workload, while one ‘kind’ boss asked two staff members to dress up as the Easter bunny and deliver Easter eggs to all the other workers.

Dressing up as a cyber dog for the local library and dressing up as a tomato to hand out leaflets were low points for other respondents.

But some of the weird tasks British workers are asked to carry out are surprisingly common – as the top 50 list reveals.

Feeding animals, separating security pins from tags and typing phone contacts into spreadsheets feature highly on the list of unusual jobs.

Playing computer games, cuddling someone and planning weddings are some of the nicer tasks to feature in the list.

While removing poo from swimming pools, cleaning up road kill and cleaning toilets are among the more unsavoury jobs.

One in 10 people say they currently work in a job where they are asked to carry out bizarre tasks – which include parading around in underwear, watching people sleep and creating sugar cube castles.

But 13 per cent of employees have been so disgruntled about the work they were being asked to do, as the tasks were too far removed from their job description, they’ve left the job.

    Jeremy Hulme continues,

“The good news is that the majority of people do have a choice, and if a job becomes too inappropriate, difficult or stressful, they can often leave or do something about it.

“That’s the difference between working people in Britain and working animals abroad, which have no choice. We need to support these working horses, donkeys, camels and other animals to improve their conditions and ensure they have the vet care they need when they are sick or injured.”

It has been confirmed that acting icon and Oscar-winning actor, Debbie Reynolds has died following a suspected stroke a day after her daughter, Carrie Fisher passed away. She was 84-years-old. Her son, Todd Fisher said that the stress of her daughter dying had been “too much” for her. He is reported to have said that her last words were that she wanted to be with Carrie.

One of the first celebs to react to her passing was gay icon Bette Midler who said that the news was just, “to hard to comprehend” before adding that the actress, who was most famous for her role in Singin’ In The Rain, was “beautiful, talented, devoted to her craft”.

Debbie was active on social media hours before her death. On Facebook yesterday she thanked fans and well-wishers after the death her daughter for their “thoughts and prayers”.

    She wrote,

“Thank you to everyone who has embraced the gifts and talents of my beloved and amazing daughter,” Reynolds wrote. “I am grateful for your thoughts and prayers that are now guiding her to her next stop. Love Carries Mother”

Debra Messing added that her on-screen mother in Will And Grace was,

“The epitome of clean-cut American optimism, dancing with Gene Kelly as an equal, a warrior woman who never stopped working.”

Speaking to her surviving son, Todd said she, “was with Carrie”.

Debbie Reynolds told The Telegraph in 2014 that every man she dated was gay, except Robert Wagner. She spoke about how Hollywood’s men during the ‘golden age’ of film had to hide their sexuality or they “wouldn’t get hired”.

In 2012 she spoke about her relationship with the gay community saying,

“Over the years many of the boys that have worked for me as dancers have been gay. The creative people were all gay people, from producers to writers. To me, they were just family.

“I have a gay boy that takes care of me and lives with me. He’s an angel. He cooks for me and works in my dance school. I have had this dance school for 25 years to teach young people how to dance. They want to learn hip-hop, not tap dancing, these days. It is not my favourite thing but it is fun to watch.”
