  • Boston’s “Straight Pride” has raised only a fraction of its costs

Boston’s “Straight Pride” has raised only a fraction of its costs

Support for Boston’s so-called “straight pride” doesn’t seem to be going that well!

The official fundraiser for Boston’s “straight pride”, which was created to celebrate heterosexuality in the US city has raised only a tiny proportion of its $5000 ask.

After three days, and at the time of publishing, the group has raised just $364 or around 7.28% of its goal.

The pride is due to take place in late August and has booked Milo Yiannopoulous, the openly gay author and former Brebait journalist to be its Grand Marshall.

In a funder which is called “Permits cost money” organisers of the pride event, called “Super Happy Fun America” are asking supporters for $5000 to help cover the cost of putting on the non-LGBT+ pride event in the US city of Boston.

According to the organisers, Super Happy Fun America, “advocates on behalf of the straight community in order to foster respect and awareness with people from all walks of life”.

The pride event even has its own straight pride flag and is planning to raise the flag which is Blue and Pink with yellow Male and Female symbols interlinking in the middle.

It will, apparently be raised over Boston City Hall after the parade, after which, organisers have promised speeches. The organisers have invited Mayor Martin J. Walsh to participate.

“Our equality laws protect us all. I want them to protect you. Actually I want to protect the Muslim community, which is getting a terrible… I want our Muslim community to be completely protected.

“The worse thing about it is it’s damaging the reputation of a peaceful and loving community that I have lived in my entire life.”

She continued to say that she was advocating for an exclusion area around the school to protect children the current wave of protests.

Parents have been protesting outside the Anderton Park school in Birmingham in demonstrations similar as seen outside Parkfield Primary school last month.

TODAY IN HISTORY | The Admiral Duncan Bombing

In 1999 a nail bomb went off in the popular gay pub The Admiral Duncan, killing three people.

Three people were killed and dozens injured when a bomb, left in an unattended bag, placed by Neo-Nazi David Copeland, exploded on the 30th April 1999. The Admiral Duncan bombing was part of a series of three bombings in London, by Copeland who was targetting various diverse communities and stirring fear in the communities he targetted.

The Soho bombing was the deadliest attack.

Andrea Dykes 27, Nik Moore 31 and John Light, 32 were killed. Andrea was four months pregnant at the time. Around 70 people were injured.

Days after the attack, Peter Tatchell and members of the activism group Outrage organised a vigil outside the pub.

Copeland was captured that same evening. He had terrorised Londoners with two other bombings, one in Brixton on the 17th and one in White Chapel on the 24th. His two other bombs, fortunately, did not kill anyone. It was thought that Copeland was trying to stir up race and homophobic tensions.

Copeland was convicted of three murders and three offences of planting bombs on 30 June 2000 and given six life sentences. The minimum time he’ll spend behind bars is 50 years.

Lord Sugar blasted for “casual homophobia” in Piers Morgan jibe

Lord Sugar has been accused of “casual homophobia” after ‘gay elephant’ jibe.

After Piers Morgan asked his Twitter following whether elephants could be gay, but Alan Sugar couldn’t help but respond. His response missed the mark, however, and was met with condemnation from some followers.

Piers Morgan tweeted, “Genuine question: are there gay elephants?” to which the Apprentice star responded in front of his 5.3 million followers, “Good question they have good memory, That is why they followed you when you went on Safari in South Africa”

While some were offended by the remark, calling the tweet an example of ‘casual homophobia’ others commented on the laziness of the joke, with one writing, “by all means attempt a gay joke, we wont be offended as long as its witty or clever. This offends me simply because its [sic] beyond dull”.

Others weren’t so impressed with the tweet, calling the businessman out on what they called “casual homophobia”.

This isn’t the first time Sugar has been accused of homophobia, last year he was slammed after saying that he had had enough “puffs” in his boardroom. Twitter users were quick to call out the Tweet as homophobic and bigoted living the billionaire businessman having to explain that the tweet was “a bloody joke” and that puffs was not a homophobic slur.
