Based on the film and classic TV series, Fame follows the trials and tribulations of a group of young students studying at the New York School of Performing Arts as they hone their skills in music, dance and acting, as well as falling in love, clashing with the establishment, battling personal demons and dabbling in the dark side of fame. The show follows a small group of students from the first meeting to graduation, looking at the challenges they face in their academic studies, their artistic studies and their personal lives. Issues such as drug use, unrequited love and illiteracy are all canvassed as the friends make their way through their time at school.
Despite its 1980’s setting, the show looked and sounded bang up to date. The variety of musical styles and the vocal gymnastics reflected the modern style and the dance routines covered a wide variety of styles, from hip-hop and street dancing to classical ballet and even a flamenco-inspired number.
The show boasts around 20 songs which flow in rapid succession giving the show more of a feel of a musical revue than a piece of musical theatre. The opening number “Pray I Make/Hard Work” set the tone of the show nicely and was modern and contemporary. “Tyrone’s Rap” and “Dancin’ on the Sidewalk” were up-tempo numbers, both of which were infused with a display of hip-hop and street dancing. But the standout song was saved for the finale, with “Bring on Tomorrow” being a traditional rousing conclusion to the proceedings which was well performed by the ensemble.

Reddit gays were on hand to let him know that it’s not that uncommon that gay couples, but not always, to open up their relationships – to differing degrees.
So what are those degrees of an open relationship?
The door has a keyhole
Where a couple might talk or fantasise about having a threesome or a four-way with another couple. It’s on the table, the discussion is happening, maybe they even watch threesome porn together, but they’re not physically committed yet.

The back catalogue of Take That songs is ripe for the picking, and with plenty of hits spanning their 30-year-career, including Relight My Fire, Greatest Day, Prey, Shine and Back For Good, the show primarily presents the musical numbers not as standalone songs, but almost as if it is the soundtrack to the character’s lives; and cleverly places them naturally into the story; meaning that they are there to support the narrative and not because the fans expect them to be shoehorned into the show somehow.
In a cast which is fairly faultless and which works incredibly well together, Rachel Lumberg excels as Rachel, the bubbly woman whose love of The Band brings her friends back together; Alison Fitzjohn provides many of the laughs as the self-depreciating Claire and the young ensemble who play the teenage friends are brilliantly put together.
As for “the Band” the Let It Shine TV show winners, were everything you would expect; putting on a great performance as they belted their way through the musical numbers, singing and dancing their hearts out with confidence and professionalism; and looking great to boot.
The presentation of the show, especially for a touring production, is big budget and incredibly well done, with inventive staging, immersive lighting, a solid sound design and direction which keeps the show moving along flawlessly. The production is incredibly slick and polished and barely stops for breath as it speeds along.
The success of the show is how all of the individual elements are present and come together to produce the whole package; and The Band surpasses all expectations and is a crowd-pleasing, foot tapping, fun packed show crammed with genuine warmth and emotion at its heart.
Don’t expect to hear any Carpenters’ songs at the show misleadingly titled Richard Carpenter is Close To You.
Why? Because this show does not have the rights to perform any of the Carpenters’ songs. Performer and writer Matthew Floyd does his best to not play more than six words of any of their songs otherwise he could be sued. And there is a disclaimer for this show: The affectionate but unsparing parody is not endorsed by the real Richard Carpenter.
So what are we left with? A musical show that somewhat makes fun of Richard Carpenter, mocking him as the second fiddle to ‘the voice’ that was his sister’s – Karen Carpenter – for it was she, not Richard, who was the face, and of course the voice, of The Carpenters – the biggest selling American group in the 1970s (American groups versus other Non-American groups as Floyd states in the show).
But poor poor bitter Richard. After the death of his sister 35 years ago (has it been that long already?), Richard is left to look for work in any way shape or form he can. He has an agent who pays him no mind, though she books him on the QVC channel where pushes his new remaster of last month’s remastered Carpenters Greatest Hits. He’s also trying to push his own new album but no one is having it and/or buying it.
Richard used to be on top of the world (with his sister), though now he’s back at the keys of his piano and his sister’s legacy is still looming as large as ever. What will become of Richard? Will he be relegated to the not-so-famous group of famous siblings in heaven – such as Solange Knowles and Serena Williams? Go see Richard Carpenter is Close To You and find out! Hate crimes against gay and bisexual people in the UK have rocketed by double-digit figures, new statistics show.

Twelve percent (11,638 crimes) of recorded hate crimes in England and Wales were directed at gay and bisexual people new figures from the Home Office reveal, a 17 percent increase since last year.
Two percent of recorded hate crime (1651 crimes) were those against transgender people – up a staggering 32 percent.
Overall recorded hate crimes were up, with nearly 100,000 crimes reported. Double the amount in just five years. The majority of hate crime (75%, 71,251 crimes) were racially motivated. Religious-based hate crime accounted for 9 percent (8336 crimes) of recorded crimes.
A report from the Home Office made a suggestion as to why the figures had soared stating, “This increase is thought to be largely driven by improvements in police recording, although there has been spikes in hate crime following certain events such as the EU referendum and the terrorist attacks in 2017,
“It is thought that the sharp increase in religious hate crimes is due to a rise in these offences following the terrorist attacks in 2017.”
Worryingly, the number of closed prosecutions dropped by over 2 per cent from 14,480 in 2016/17 to 14,151 in 2017/18.
Home Secretary Sajid Javid said, “Hate crime goes directly against the long-standing British values of unity, tolerance and mutual respect – and I am committed to stamping this sickening behaviour out.
“Our refreshed action plan sets out how we will tackle the root causes of prejudice and racism, support hate crime victims and ensure offenders face the full force of the law”.
Only a small proportion of crimes get recorded
The home office report also suggests that only a small proportion of hate crimes against LGBT people are reported. The combined 2015/16 to 2017/18 dataset estimates that there were 30,000 sexual orientation hate crimes per year.
A study of 2,000 frequent flyers also revealed keeping the volume level at a reasonable level on headphones and helping other passengers hoist heavy bags into overhead lockers will leave a good impression.
Not eating smelly food and keeping your seat upright also made the list as did not hogging the armrest.
Keeping your mouth closed while you munch on airline food was also considered important.
Despite these simple courtesies, nine in 10 Brits have been enraged by the unpleasant behaviour or habits of other passengers on a flight.
Emma Grimster, a spokesperson at TravelSupermarket, which commissioned the study, said: “Flying can be an exciting and even luxurious experience, and in these situations, with the anticipation of a holiday ahead, it seems some people can easily forget their manners.
“Some of us are more frequent flyers than others. Perhaps it is the heightened sense of excitement, or even anxiety of flying at altitude that makes people forget their common courtesy.”
The study also found getting drunk is the most effective method to cheese off other passengers.
Thirty-eight percent said they can’t bear being sat nearby a boozy traveller, and one in four have found themselves subjected to a flatulent flyer making the experience more unpleasant.
With the October half-term just around the corner, more than one third admitted they have been irked by parents who are unable to keep control of their kids during the journey.
Forty percent have been subjected to the cries of a screaming baby while cruising thousands of feet in the air, and one in four have been disrupted by an over-excited toddler.
Personal space is of particular importance on a flight, according to the study.
Fifty-four percent hate having their comfort disrupted by the person behind them digging into or kicking the back of their seat.
And 47 percent have words for the person in front of them putting their seat back all the way.
Stop Talking To Me!
One in five have found themselves sat next to a chatterbox who has talked their ear off for the whole flight.
Thirty-seven percent of those surveyed can’t stand a stranger trying to talk to them during a flight, and three in 10 said they could only tolerate chatter before take-off.
When the irritation gets too much, only one in six have ever gone as far as to complain to a flight attendant about the issue.
Despite these bugbears, 62 percent of those surveyed said they enjoy flying and 62 percent find it a ‘generally relaxing’ experience.
Emma Grimster added: “Many of these points surrounding flight etiquette involve encroaches on noise and space, which is understandable in the limited confines of an aircraft.
“If you are planning to travel with your kids over the half term break, get organised with things to keep them occupied, making the experience as pleasant as possible for both the family and those around you.”

There have been nearly 40 presenters of Blue Peter in its 60 years but have there been any openly gay or LGBT+ presenters of the long-running magazine show.
Michael Sundin
In the 1980s Blue Peter hired Michael Sundin who was a gay man. Michael appeared on his first programme in September 1984. However, his time on the show was short-lived when pictures of the presenter appeared in the tabloids of him with a male stripper appeared in print.
He presented 77 shows, but his contract was not renewed in 1985. Theories as to why he was renewed are various; some feel that he was denied an extension to his contract was due to his sexuality, however, bosses at the show apparently thought he had little rapport with viewers. There were also reports that some parents had an issue with his effeminacy.
In an interview in 2007 a former editor of the show, Biddy Baxter denied that Sundin had been sacked because of his sexuality, saying “It was his leaving the programme because children didn’t like him – nothing to do with his sexual proclivities”.
Sadly Michael Sundin would die just a few years later in 1989 from AIDs related complications. He was just 29.
Mark Curry
Mark Curry presented Blue Peter between 1986 and 1989. Curry’s co-hosts during his time with the programme were Janet Ellis, Peter Duncan, Caron Keating, Yvette Fielding and John Leslie. In September 2008, Curry formed a civil partnership with his long-term partner, Jeremy Sandle.
Stuart Miles
Stuart Miles joined the Blue Peter presenting team in 1994. He was not openly gay when he presented the show. Since leaving the show, he said, in the News Of The World, “I’ve never made any secret of my sexuality. Sexual frustration can be a powerful thing. I should know after five years on Blue Peter, where you’re expected to be like Action Man – smooth all over with no genitals”.
He joined the Gaydar Radio (now Gaydio) presenting team in 2008.
To our knowledge, there has never been a transgender presenter of Blue Peter.

Tom Bosworth has revealed that he lost over 50 followers on Instagram after sharing a picture of him kissing his husband to be, Harry. The post was in tribute to National Coming Out Day and outlined how important coming out was to him.

Tom got engaged shortly before taking part in the Rio Olympics in 2016. Speaking to THEGAYUK before he left the UK for Rio, Bosworth said, that if Heathrow had the right ring he’d buy it to make his boyfriend an “honest man!”
Speaking about how the pair met Bosworth told THEGAYUK,
“My female friend decided to hit on him. She quite liked the look of him.
“Me and my other friend were sat there trying not to laugh as we quite clearly could see that he perhaps didn’t bat for that team (laughs).
“She got very offended when he said, “You’re not my type.” He was trying to be polite.
