    So what is Rimming?

    Rimming if you’re not in the know is where one person (the rimmer) licks, sucks, kisses, penetrates their partner’s (rimmee) anus with their tongue.

    So why was there no nudity in Call Me By Your Name?

    There was surprisingly little sex or nudity in Call Me By Your Name – which for a gay film is unusual, but it turns out it was in the contracts of Armie Hammer and Timothée Chalamet, that there be no sex scenes or nudity or so the original book’s writer, James Ivory, claims and it apparently “rankles” him.

    Speaking to the Guardian, James Ivory said,

    “When Luca says he never thought of putting nudity in, that is totally untrue.

    “He sat in this very room where I am sitting now, talking about how he would do it, so when he says that it was a conscious aesthetic decision not to – well, that’s just bullshit.

    “When people are wandering around before or after making love, and they’re decorously covered with sheets, it’s always seemed phoney to me. I never liked doing that. And I don’t do it”

  • X Factor winner Louisa’s homophobic Tweets exposed

    The 2015 winner of X Factor, Louisa, has had dozens of homophobic tweets exposed.

    The singer, who says she was just 14 at the time of the tweets, repeatedly used the anti-gay slur “faggot” on her Twitter from 2013, just two years before she rose to fame on X Factor.

    The singer was exposed after Birmingham Pride announced that she would be headlining this year’s event.

    The singer, who has failed to release an album since X Factor victory, the only winner not to do so, issued an apology saying she was “young” and “foolish”.

    In a statement, she wrote: “When I was a school girl I made some inappropriate remarks on Twitter.

    “I was young and foolish, and hanging around with the wrong crowd & didn’t know any better.

    “That’s not an excuse, it’s an explanation.

    “I’m sorry for some of the comments I made at that time on social media.

    “I think it’s important for me to speak out about this and say that I don’t think it is right or appropriate for anyone to use derogatory language at any time or at any age no matter what the circumstances.”

    After Birmingham Pride announced Louisa’s headline, a Twitter user published screenshots of some of the slurs.

    Birmingham Pride has not responded to the news and it is unclear at this stage whether the pride will keep Louisa as its headliner.

    ★★★★★ | Love, Simon

    He’s just like you.

    Simon Spiel (portrayed by Nick Robinson) has a “huge ass secret” in Love, Simon… he’s gay. The seventeen-year-old hasn’t told his perfectly ordinary nuclear family or his perfectly ordinary group of friends yet, but begins communicating with an anonymous Blue via email when he finds out through the school’s gossipy blog that Blue is also, in fact, closeted. Teenage drama ensues, complications arise but boiled down to its core, you’re left with a syrupy-sweet premise and a completely revitalised romantic outlook on life.

    Despite knowing the reactions he’ll get probably won’t be as severe as they could be, Simon’s worry and fear of change encapsulate the paralysing effect of coming out – or the process of coming out – can take on any individual. As Simon attempts to figure out who Blue is, his daydreams and fantasies remind me just how much I used to do the same with every boy who smiled at me. Like Simon, I was lucky enough to have a minimal reaction when I came out; a cryfest followed by group hugs and soppy speeches from my parents. But watching the fear in his eyes when Martin (Logan Miller) threatens to leak his emails with Blue to the school reminded me just how insufferable the thought of this secret being exposed used to be. The constant guard that he has up, the fake bro talks that he has to keep having, to not let it slip is painstakingly familiar. The journey that Simon goes on, from not understanding why straight people don’t have to come out to the heart-warming post he makes where he embraces himself irrevocably, is something that I think most of us have experienced. It’s a feeling of rejoicing and acceptance that director Greg Berlanti makes you feel as if for the very first time. My eyes first watered when Simon choked on the word. He sputtered and couldn’t seem to get it out. Gay. These small nuances are what make the film more than a teen rom-com, even with the archetypal bullies and linear plot structure, there’s so much depth and warmth in this story that so many of us can see ourselves in.

    Outside of Simon and Blue, the other characters (while, for obvious reasons, not getting as much screen time) still serve valuable purposes not only to the plot but to the world built around Simon himself. His parents (played by Jennifer Garner and Josh Duhamel) give the right balance of comedic and heartfelt, making us laugh and swoon and cry. Garner and Duhamel give equally charming and memorable performances, but Garner’s speech especially had the audience waiting with bated breath until she delivered the line – “You get to exhale now, Simon.” At that point, no one even attempted to hide their tears. Speaking of the audience, every time the drama teacher Ms Albright (Natasha Rothwell) came on screen our collective shoulders were shaking and our tummies were hurting from the amount of rip-roaring laughter she instantly produced. Out of Simon’s group of friends, while Abby (Alexandra Shipp X-Men: Apocalypse) and Nick (Jorge Lendeborg Jr. Spider-Man: Homecoming) certainly had their moments, Leah (Katherine Langford – 13 Reasons Why) shone the brightest but definitely suffered from sidekick syndrome. Maybe we’ll get to see more of her in future, if Becky Albertalli – the author of the book Simon Vs. The Homosapien’s Agenda, which the film is based on – gets Leah’s book on the big screen.

    Everything from the cinematography to the marketing to the soundtrack had undertones of the old school teen movie genre, which makes sense since it’s the first major studio film focusing on a gay love story. I feel incredibly lucky to still be a teenager and have this film validate my experience with its normalcy, opening up a plethora of opportunities for more people’s stories to be told. The tagline of the film itself, “Everyone deserves a great love story”, encourages the exemplar celebration of diversity that Love, Simon does. Simon himself feels like such an easy character to get lost in, you see yourself in him or if not you, then your brother, your cousin, your friend, he’s an every man in the best possible sense and watching him fall in love is both infuriatingly sweet and extremely awkward in the best-worst relateable way as he navigates conversations with his potential love interests.

    The characters that surround him are so vividly real, with their own quirks, going through their own things, you feel a part of Simon’s world just watching him listen to his playlist as he drives to pick up his friends. That kind of audience inclusion, be it through the editing or the camera technique, enhances the moral of the film of tolerance and inclusion. I might be biased, being the exact target audience (a gay teenager) but Greg Berlanti and the whole cast and crew have created a modern-day classic for those who liked but never identified with the Cady Herons, the Ferris Buellers, the Jim Levensteins and the Olive Penderghasts. I feel incredibly lucky to now have a Simon Spier.

    Can I get Herpes from oral sex?

    Is herpes only transmittable with penetrative sex or can you get from oral sex as well?

    There are two main types of herpes, HSV1 and HSV2. HSV stands for Herpes Simplex Virus. HSV1 tends to affect the mouth. HSV2 tends to affect the anus or vagina, both, however, are transmitted by direct touch contact.

    So yes, you can get herpes (on your genitals) from someone who has a cold sore.

    HSV1 tends to show itself as cold sores, HSV2 tends to show itself as genital herpes. There is no known cure for herpes, but its symptoms can be controlled. Medications like Compeed, Zovirax or Bonjela can help with cold sores, or genital herpes can be controlled with Aciclovir Tablets.

    The problem is that herpes is often unknowingly spread amongst people, meaning people either don’t know they have it – or it’s still contagious even when there are no visible symptoms.

    How can you protect yourself from Herpes?

    Protection, such as condoms, during sex – whether it is oral or anal, is the only real way of making sure that you don’t contract herpes.

    Most people have at least one of the strains…

    What’s more many people have at least one of the strains. It’s estimated that between 50 and 80 per cent of adults have oral herpes, according to the World Health Organization. That means your risk of getting herpes is actually quite high.

    Speaking to THEGAYUK.com Doctor Rick Viney a urology surgeon from the BMI The Priory said, “The two principal strains of herpes are hsv1 and hsv2. Hsv1 classically affects the mouth and hsv2 the vagina and anus. These are transmitted by direct contact, so it is entirely possible for the two strains to end up in the wrong place during oral sex. “

    So HSV1 can cause genital herpes, and HSV2 can cause cold sores. The only way to stop transferal is by using condoms or a dental dam.

  • Reformed ‘ComeOut’ group scaling new heights in North Devon

    LGBT Number3, North Devon Sunrise and Drink Wise, Age Well Devon have joined forces to relaunch the ‘ComeOut’ group to provide members of the LGBT+ community across North Devon with the opportunity to get together to enjoy events, activities, workshops, talks and counselling in Barnstaple on the first Saturday of every month.

    The initiative from North Devon’s ‘Arm in Arm’ partnership has been a long time in the planning, and if last month’s launch event at the Sunrise Centre in Barnstaple is anything to go by will be much in demand.

    Ahead of the group’s first get-together on Saturday, 7th April, Darren Walker of Drink Wise, Age Well said, “Our programme was set up in Devon to help people aged 50 plus make healthier choices about alcohol, and one of the findings of an initial study we did was that people with fulfilling hobbies and interests are far more likely to be able to cut back than those who don’t. We are delighted therefore to be joining with LGBT Number3 and Sunrise to offer a wide range of fun, fulfilling and inspirational activities to LGBT+ people of all ages from across North Devon.”

    Ken Cornish of LGBT Number3 commented, “We are really excited about taking the  ComeOut group to new heights, providing counselling, workshops, wellbeing, coffee and chat, plus guest speakers and day trips – really embracing the community and getting everyone involved. Bring your friends along – you don’t have to be LGBT+ to become a part of something special!”

    Naomi Chunilal, Manager of North Devon Sunrise added, “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Arm in Arm to relaunch the ComeOut group in Barnstaple for the LGBT+ community across the South West. We are very aware that there are very few other social activities and networks in Northern Devon for the LGBT+ community. We hope the ComeOut group becomes a vibrant LGBT+ social hub where everyone is welcome of all ages, backgrounds and identities from the LGBT+ community across the region.”

    A survey of almost 17,000 people aged 50 plus about their drinking habits, carried out for Drink Wise, Age Well in 2015, found that older adults who are LGBT; not married, partnered, or cohabiting; live alone, or who have a longstanding illness or disability are more likely to be higher risk drinkers than those who are not. It also found that people who say they don’t engage in activities they find fulfilling are more than four times more likely to be higher risk drinkers.

    The ComeOut group will meet in the Sunrise Centre on Castle Street in Barnstaple from 11 am to 1 pm on the first Saturday of every month. Entry is free and you should keep an eye on the group’s Facebook page www.facebook.com/ndcomeout for details of scheduled activities.

    This is the world’s largest Key Lime Pie

    Culinary masters have created the world’s largest Key Lime Pie, one of Key West’s most famous of exports.

    Florida Keys, one of the gay-friendliest places in the US,  has just delivered one epic pie, overseen by chef and restaurateur Bobby Stoky who led a culinary team on Saturday, 24 March, to prepare a gargantuan Key lime pie to serve about 2,000 people.

    Measuring 8 feet in diameter – the size certified by the World Record Association as the globe’s largest – the giant pastry was made from ingredients including the juice from 5,766 Key limes, 200 pounds of graham crackers and 55 gallons of sweetened condensed milk. The finished dessert weighed around 1,000 pounds.

    “It’s a balance between sweet and tangy that makes this pie absolutely delicious,” Stoky said.

    Key lime pie is the official pie of Florida, as designated by the state legislature in 2006. Most historic accounts indicate Key lime pie was first created in the kitchen of the Curry Mansion in Key West and referred to as Key West pie.

    “The 8-foot pie was prepared in Atlanta, Georgia, at an upmarket shopping mall to showcase the culinary delights available to visitors holidaying in the Florida Keys”

    International visitors keen to get in on Key lime pie action can travel to Key West in early summer to attend the annual Key Lime Festival. Running from 30 June, to 4 July, the festival’s events include a ‘Mile High Key Lime Pie Eatin’ Contest’ on America’s Independence Day, where competitors attempt to be the first to devour a 9-inch Key lime pie.

    Reports of the singer being bisexual were “misconstrued”

    It seems Aaron Carter’s coming out as bisexual was over-egged by some in the media after he said that reports of him being bisexual were “misconstrued”.

    When asked whether he could see himself in a relationship with another man Aaron replied, “Yeah, no. It was more so just a story that happened when I was like 17 with somebody, and I can find men and women attractive, but when it comes down to it, I think it was a little misconstrued.

    “I see myself being with a woman and having kids. I want to have a family.”

    Despite this, Aaron did reveal who his male celebrity crush was speaking to TMZ he said, “If I could ask one male celebrity out on a date it would actually be Tom Hardy, but I think he’s already taken.”

    Aaron did admit that he once had a thing with a guy when he was 17. He said he had an “experience with a male that I had an attraction to who I also worked with and grew up with”.
