Turns out Scruff probably knows your type better than you

If you’ve had enough of Grindr there’s always Scruff…

Scruff is the other big gay hook up app and it is one of the more highly rated of all the big names according to our research. However, an interesting feature, which you might not know about actually gives a pretty insightful look at who your perfect guy is, even if you’re not actually sure who he is.

So, I was looking at the “Insights” section on my own profile. You get there by clicking on your own photo and scrolling down until you see the “Insights” button.

    [totalpoll id=”127052″]

Usually, Insights is a paid-for feature for other profiles, but it’s free to see your own insight and it has to be said I love a bit of ANALytics. See what I did there? #SorryNotSorry.

    What is Insights on Scruff?

It gives you a rundown of who you respond to and how often you do it which when you check out their charts can be quite interesting.

It shows you how often you respond to messages and the breaks that down by the community you most often answer, their age bracket and interestingly their body hair.

Your eyes tell a different story to your heart

    [totalpoll id=”127054″]

You see, subconsciously you may be answering more messages from certain types of guys without even knowing it.

    Is scruff better than grindr

So apparently, if you hit me up on Scruff, you’re most likely going to get an answer if you’re from the Geek Community (apparently I answer them 40% of the time) If you’re 26-35 (I answer those guys 60% of the time) and if you’re hairy (67%).

Weirdly, if you ask me what my type was I’d say maybe Ryan Phillipe circa 2001 or Jeffrey Bowyer Chapman or even Sir Patrick Stewart, but actually, my eyes and my ding dong clearly answer the mating call to geeky, hairy 30-somethings. Go them – actually, go me!

  • GAY DATING | What is a “daddy” on a dating app?

GAY DATING | What is a “daddy” on a dating app?

If you ever see someone described as a “daddy” on a dating or hook up profile, it has absolutely nothing to do with being a biological father!

A daddy is a term often ascribed to guys over a certain age, although that age varies from person to person, depending on some pretty poorly defined characteristics. It could be greying hair or a receding hairline, or it could be to do with wrinkles! It could be to do with an attitude that exudes from a photo.

It seems pretty arbitrary. But basically it’s a guy in his late 30s to early 40s and older.

Typically Daddies are thought to be older, wiser, well-versed and adaptable guys, who take on a more paternal role within relationships, sexual or otherwise. It is often used as a term of endearment or objectification, but also sometimes refers to a power dynamic between a younger guy and an older guy – a dynamic that might actually hold no truth in real life.

A daddy might be thought to be a dom or a top, but the actual man being referred to as a daddy, might, in fact, be a sub, a bottom or not into power play at all.

    [totalpoll id=”124501″]

However, Daddy isn’t a word that can be or should be applied to anyone or everyone over a particular age. Many guys feel uncomfortable with being labelled in such a way, as much as some guys under 25 take issue being referred to as a “twink” or “chicken”.

As with all terms used to describe someone, it’s best to listen to what people want to be referred to as.

  • Gay Dating | What does MMF mean on a dating app?

Gay Dating | What does MMF mean on a dating app?

If you ever see the acronym “MMF” on a guy’s profile, it means that the guy you’re talking to is into three ways with two males and a female, hence M+M+F!

Simply put the two Ms stand for Male while the F stands for female. This means that he’s into the idea of having a bisexual threesome.

    What does MMF mean

It’d be up to you to chat about specifics and how that might play out. It’s not very common to find MMF on a hookup app like Grindr or Scuff whose main audience is made up of gay men and same-sex attracted people, but you may find a bisexual man or indeed his girlfriend who is entirely up for being in a three-way with another guy.

Remember if you’re meeting up with strangers over a dating or hook up app to take precautions for your safety. Read our article about staying safe here.

  • Gay Dating | What does CBT mean on a dating app?

Gay Dating | What does CBT mean on a dating app?

If you ever see the acronym “CBT” on a guy’s profile, it’s all about the cock and balls… and the torturing of them

CBT stands for Cock and Ball torture if you see it on a dating or hook up app like Grindr. Otherwise, it probably stands for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

Some guys are into having their junk tortured and there’s a whole host of toys out there to help you out if that is your thing. They could include chastity devices, which makes it impossible to touch your D – like a cock cage or even ejaculate, with a sperm stopper.

Some guys are into electro play or even being locked up in a humbler.

CBT play can range from light tickling with a feather to kicking or punching the area. It can go as far as hardcore CBT action where a dom could end up nailing or screwing scrotums to wooden boards.

If you are going to explore this, it’s wise to have a safe word and if there’s likely to be blood drawn from play, to use gloves and antiseptic wipes.

There are serious safety issues to be concerned about and there is a lot of risk to the penis and testicles if play goes too far. Serious injuries include rupture (where you could burst or tear a testicle), torsion (where the spermatic cord gets twisted and cuts off blood supply) and avulsion (where a testicle is ripped off) which will all need medical attention immediately.

HnH stands for Horny and High – generally speaking, drugs play a part in this guy’s sexual activity. Sometimes also referred to as chemsex. You may also see PnP instead.

Make sure you keep safe during if you’re going to take part in a HnH session. Some drugs can make people take risks with their sexual health which they normally wouldn’t take, due to lowered inhibitions and feelings of intimacy and sexual drive when on certain drugs.

A fantastic resource and read into the world of chemsex is the book by James Wharton, Something For The Weekend, available from all good book stores and Waterstones online.

If you need help with addiction or are worried about drugs in your life, you can find resources at the Drugwise website.

  • Gay Dating | What does BS mean on a dating app?

Gay Dating | What does BS mean on a dating app?

If you ever see the acronym “BS” on a guy’s profile, it’s probably contained in a sentence like: “Not into BS” or “No BS” and basically it just means “No Bullshit”

You’d think that being on a hookup or dating app would be simple right? I mean we’ve all downloaded the app for one of a few reasons, right? Surely we’re all on there to search for a date, sex or maybe just friends (Yeah, sure Jan)

Surely the need for BS – however it manifests just wouldn’t need to be a thing, but it is.

From Ghosting to Catfishing to picture collectors there are all manner of shitty and bullshit behaviours on dating apps – although it seems that some apps are a breeding ground for shitty behaviour.

So why not just cut to the chase, cancel the bullshit and say what you want…

  • Gay Dating | What does BND stand for?

Gay Dating | What does BND stand for?

    Decoding BND

Have you ever seen the acronym BND and wondered what it meant, well simply put it means, Boy Next Door. Although the term is not widely used on Grindr, it can be found on Scruff as a way of describing who you are or what you’re looking for.

What is a Boy Next Door?

Often the Boy Next Door is categories as the “every boy” meaning that he’s probably cute or average looking, average build, average height. Maybe he coy or shy or an introvert and keeps himself to himself. Think unassuming nice lad, who would lend you a cup of sugar or an egg or two if he had them and you’ve got yourself a BND.

It’s a catch-all vanilla-ery term and actually isn’t particularly useful – cause Hanibal and Dexter were guys who lived next door to somebody!

  • Why are so many sites now banning adult content?

Why are so many sites now banning adult content?

With the announcement of Facebook’s new sexual content policy, we look at other internet platforms that have banned adult content.

It was revealed last month that Facebook’s new sexual solicitation policy was hitting right at the heart of sexual interactions between people. Many critics believe that the move will hurt the LGBT+ community the most with the shocking revelation that people will no longer be able to discuss their preferred sexual roles, such as whether they are tops or bottoms.
    [expander_maker]

    But Facebook isn’t the first.

Scruff, the gay dating app has had to ban various photos from being shown as profile pictures, including any pictures of guys in jockstraps, pictures with pubic hair on show or pictures which are sexual in nature.

Grindr, also operates a similar photo policy.

Instagram Users have long blasted the service for deleting their content. In 2018 gay pin-up magazine Meat‘s account was deleted twice, various celebs have hit out saying that the Facebook-owned entity had banned or blocked content.

Tumblr Earlier in December blogging site, Tumblr announced that it was going to remove all adult content. It is believed that Apple forced the company to make the policy when it temporarily kicked the blogging site from its app store.

Starbucks Also in December coffeeshop chain, Starbucks said that it had “identified a solution to prevent” porn from being viewed on its WIFI systems. It said would start blocking all sites from 2019.

Craigslist shut down its personals listings, 2018 after US Congress passed a Sex Trafficking Bill. The personals had run since 1995. The Bill could subject websites found to be unknowingly hosting ads for sex trafficking to criminal and civil liabilities. As a result, Craigslist made the decision to remove all the personals from its site, saying, “Any tool or service can be misused. We can’t take such risk without jeopardizing all our other services, so we are regretfully taking craigslist personals offline”.

Google Drive Sex workers have allegedly seen files deleted or removed from their Google Drives. Numerous adult performers and sex workers have found that content hosted on Google Drive was no longer accessible. The service does have a policy which bans the hosting of “sexually explicit or pornographic images or videos”.

Patreon, a payment collection site for content creators starting banning adult performers because its payment partners, Stripe and PayPal were refusing service.

Reddit has banned all sex-work groups and in 2007 LiveJournal made headlines after removing a picture of a mother breastfeeding saying it went against their content policy.
