Screenwriter Dustin Lance Black invites you to share in his creative process in a brilliant and intimate short film.

In a short film made for the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences (AMPAS), Milk screenwriter Dustin Lance Black opens up about his creative process.

He shows how he puts together the ideas for his scripts – up to a year before he even touches the first draft, – which he calls his ‘vomit draft’.

He keeps an archive of research and hundreds of interviews per project.

AMPAS has launched it’s first original digital series “Academy Originals” which debuted last week. The initiative is a documentary-style video series which examines everything from the creative process, to the moments that changed the course of filmmaking, to the artists who are charting its future.
