It’s Raining Men has taken it’s place in history as anti-UKIP protest song after thousands of people downloaded the song in demonstration against comments made by Henley On Thames councillor David Silvester.

David Silvester caused outrage after claiming that gay marriage had caused the recent wave of bad weather the UK was facing.

In an open letter to Prime Minister David Cameron, Silvester said:

‘Since the passage of the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act, the nation has been beset by serious storms and floods,” Silvester wrote in in The Henley Standard newspaper last month. “This is not new. This happened in the Old Testament – they were warned if they turned against God there would be pestilence, there would be war, there would be disasters.’

Silvester has since been suspended by UKIP.

Organiser Darren Pop have taken to Facebook to say:

‘NUMBER 31 IS UNBELIEVABLE! Not only did they play it, but they mentioned it was part of a campaign.

Remember it wouldnt even be in the charts without you guys. WELL DONE! You should be really proud of yourself if you bought it.’

The song was originally a hit for The Weather Girls in 1982. It has since been a hit for Geri Halliwell who managed to score a number 1 with in in 2001.
